Subject: Fingerprint Request?!
  Hi,

I´m in the process of applying for common law immigration.

My application has been in process in London since 19th April.

A few days ago I got a letter from London Immigration assking me to send them my fingerprints.

Does anyone know what this could be for??

Initially I assumed it would be for a RCMP Criminal Check (I previously lived in Canada for 1 year). However, I emailed RCMP and they informed me that a 3rd party (ie. London CHC) are unable to request a criminal check on my behalf. I´m now unsure why London CHC would have requested me to send my fingerprints directly to them.

Has anyone had to do this or have any ideas why they have asked for these?

Thanks.

Get printed in the UK, by local coppers (in reply to: Fingerprint Request?!)
Hello:

Go to the closest British Police station and tell them that you need to be printed for Immigration to Canada. Be prepared to pay a fee for that service. Once you have the prints, send them to the London CHC office and do it via the "signature required " Royal Post service, to be able to have a recepit with a name and a date on the ticket, in case you need to prove that you sent them in.

thanks jim.

I managed to get the fingerprints taken and sent off to London CHC.

However, I´m wondering why they have requested these fingerprints?

I´m hoping it isn´t for a RCMP Criminal check as these take in excess of 120 days. Does anyone know of any reasons why they would have requested my fingerprints??

RCMP does it by computer (in reply to: Fingerprint Request?!)
ALMO:

The request for prints is standard procedure, nowadays.

The 120 days you cited is wrong, the images are sent electronicaly to Ottawa, and are run thru the system using AFIS, a computer comparison print recognition software .I have a personal friend who is a RCMP civillian print expert at their headquarters in Ottawa, and I checked with him about this.

No one gets a clearance with out prints now. To many dodgy people around.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the reply.

I am still slightly confused though as on the RCMP website it says the checks take in excess of 120 days to complete:

http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/crimrec/finger_e.htm

Is this only applicable if you apply for the checks yourself?
