Subject: Proof of funds - when ?
Can anyone tell me WHEN during the whole PR process (SW at Buffalo) the CIC requires to show proof of sufficient funds ?

We have submitted the proof at the time of submission and we are wondering when they will ask to show the proof again. It is a big concern for us as we had a little more than the minimum but at this moment we had to use our savings and we have less ... so if we know when we have to show again we can be prepared.

Thanks for your response. I really don´t know the answer to that.

they can ask any time during the process. We have been asked at each step - application, IA, request for medicals etc.

Thanks Sharon for a quick reply.

So should I assume that the next time they will ask would be for IA ? We submitted our application 3 months ago so I can assume that we have time ?

And what happens if we cannot show sufficient funds ? Is that a reason for rejection ? Thanks

They may or may not ask you for proof of funds before the IA, if they do, you need to show the required amount else your application may be rejected.

I can´t answer that - simply because we have been too afraid to risk it.

Showing Proof of funds, if asked to provide, is not elective. It is mandatory just like IELTS, proof of education, medicals etc.

Sharon!! "they can ask any time during the process. We have been asked at each step - application, IA, request for medicals etc."

I am confused with your post. I know you said that your ancestors came to Canada a few hundred years ago! And your grand father on your mom´s side. So I can assume you did not go through the immigration process anyways...Am I missing something here?

IELTS is not mandatory and not taking may not result in your application being refused.

I mean if asked to provide IELTS results you must...I havent seen anyone approved after ignoring CIC´s request to provide documents.

If called for interview due to lack of proof of English proficiency , you only increase the chances of refusal

BTW, the topic was about ´Proof of funds´

I have seen quite a few people who ignored the IELTS request and still got PR. The reason is if you have submitted written proof of language proficiency then the IO scores you based on that. If you claim 16 and he gives you 12 then he may ask you to provide IELTS but in some cases when IO sees the applicant can sail (easily) through even with 12 points he may not even ask and (may)just add a line to CAIPS "IELTS score is not needed at this stage".

You can see your score on CAIPS for English language proficiency (in most cases) if you did not submit IELTS and were asked to provide, so,if you can manage with the points being awarded then you need not take it.

You are not called for interview anymore for testing your language proficiency i.e., you either go through or you are refused with what is on your file as far as language proficiency is concerned.

I know the topic was about "Proof of Funds" but I have seen people being worried that they will be awarded 0 points for English if they did not submit IELTS when requested, so,it was just to make clear.

69.2.5 is correct, with written proof of language, you will get some points- but they may not be what you deserve. IELTS is the only way to insure your score. If you have room in your point score (you are well over 67) then it is less of a concern. They will not use an interview to assess language skills, it is clearly stated in the CIC guidelines in the same place it strongly recommends you supply an IELTS score.

Almost Perfect, I am Canadian but someone I care about very much is on his way to PR status. I orginially found this forum in my attempts to offer him assistance.

69.2.5: I disagree that people got PR after ignoring CIC request to submit documentation.

However, if they contacted CIC and provided them enough documentation/proof to prove English language ability, then I agree with you. Ignoring the request is a different issue and convincing them that there is no need of taking IELTS is another.

Tell me these people were from Pakistan/Bangla Desh/Sri Lanka/China

Sharon: OIC! Now its clear. Your original post confused me...
