Subject: Package returned for missing medical info
  Hi,

I sent in the sponsorship package for my husband to CPC-Mississauga more than one month ago and just got it back for missing documents. That is the missing medical info and photos for my husband´s young son who lives with his mother 6 hours away from my husband. The mother refused to let him undergo the medical exam and also refused the photos (after several months of trying and several trips to go to pick him up). CIC told us that to avoid any problems because of this, my husband should write a letter explaining why we weren´t including the medical info and photos for the boy and that my husband had to acknowledge in writing that this meant he wouldn´t be able to sponsor him in the future. We also got a letter from the embassy in my husband´s country which he had to sign for them that was acknowledging the same thing. So we included 3 letters (one from me, one from my husband (in both of his languages), and one from the embassy (which I paid to have translated as well), and still that was not enough. What should we do??? We cannot possibly get the missing documents. Should we just send the package in again? I feel that the person who opened our papers didn´t even read the letters. That is what CIC told us to include to avoid problems!!! Is there any way to contact them to explain our situation. I know that we cannot possibly be the only ones who haven´t been able to get the child´s info from a resentful mom -- and now it seems that we can´t even get past the very first stage of this whole immigration process. HELP US PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

Hi Kirsten,

I don´t know if this will help, but I am immigrating to Canada ( I am a U.S. citizen and my husband is Canadian, I am in Canada on a visitors visa and my application is in process)and I have a 12 yr old son who lives with his father in NY ( 6 hours away from us in Canada). Although my son isn´t immigrating, he still requires a medical exam, and since I have joint custody of him, I have to claim him as a dependent child. My ex husband is completely uncooperative ( I had to fight for a court order to allow my son to even visit Canada with me...just so you understand how uncooperative my ex is! lol).

My first question is, does your mate have visitation with his child? I am having my son´s medical exam done this month in Canada, while my son is here visiting during the Summer with me. It´s actually cheaper than having it done in the U.S., but that´s not really the point. If your mate has visitation, he can have the photos done and take him to the DMP himself to have the child´s medical exam done. He will need a copy of the child´s birth certificate and a completed copy of the forms required. From what I understand of my copious hours spent pouring over CIC guides and webpages, it doesn´t really seem to matter where you have the exam of the child done, as long as it gets done and is sent to the processing center. Like I said, this is just a thought, and your circumstances may make this impossible. If your mate doesn´t have visitation, then the only other suggestion I would possibly have is that he would need to go to court to accomplish that. Long process though, and to be honest, I don´t have much faith in the family court system...after a 3 year divorce. I don´t know if this helps, but a 6 hour drive isn´t that far...I do 6 hours each way to get my son and bring him to visit me...with no help from his father. It´s certainly worth it.

Good Luck!
