What is your game? Trying to attack Sharon because she refered to a friend as "My Guy" get a life.

My Girl is a horse does that mean I am breaking the Law because I did not declare her on my income tax?

Every thing Humans do we interpret. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some people would actually think your normal unfortunately I´m not one of them.

People come here for advice on Immigration issues and all your doing is attacking postings of answers from persons with limited information trying to help others. Stop wasting peoples time by ill informed stupidty.

Ignorance is lacking in knowledge and you are in the same business as I am but hide behind Anonymous4. What is your problem can´t get any clients because I answer their questions on overseas immigration. LOL

Nothing wrong, I have done or said, to deserve your co-ordinated attacks.

Your girl sharon strated the thread with referral to linguistic and communication skills, or do you have a short memory Mr Roy!! She invited the wide discussion and I believe Canada is a country of democracy.
Be in fair and clean competition. Only, this is the way to win.

C´mon people!!

Are we on a hate thread?!!

OK...Some issues are very sensitive. Canada needs immigrants and hence it should be sensitive to other cultures... Fair enough. But on an optimistic note, I do think Canada is generally culturally sensitive.

Sharon´s intentions were not bad but her choice of article was a little insensitive especially the way it was written. But is this ´gonna´(lol) end somewhere or not?!

Take a break guys...Peace!

I agree with Roy.

Your advices aren´t the right ones and people listening to you should be a carefull about what you are saying.

My advice.. read the op manuals before talking.

The article was written by a immigrant born, non caucasian journalist for the third largest newspaper in Canada. It was at the top of the editorial section this past week. It was not some obscure little article in a web blog somewhere.

If you only want to view immigration from one side of the mirror and see what you want - fine. Given the amount of discussion this past few weeks about IELTS and its harsh standards, I thought the other side of the picture might help shake up our miopic vision.

Anyone who does controversial things is given hype these days. It doesnt mean s/he is right. Its a shame if the article was written by an immigrant because he should understand better.

The mirror is not a very smart example. The other side is always opaque. Try using a coin as an example. It has 2 valuable sides.

you are right, a coin is a better example.

I am probably on of the most tolerant and imigration friendly people out there. Why else would I hang around an immigration forum?

But I have to tell you, my patience runs thin when I go to Canadian Tire and ask where the fencing stain is, and the staff person cannot answer me. I find it frustrating when I am trying to order something over the phone and I have to repeat myself 10 times and spell things because the person on the other end can´t understand me. I find it a little unsettling when I go to my doctor´s office and the entire waiting room makes no attempt to speak the language of the country they live in and rather live in isolation and not make the effort to adapt to their new home.

We now translate our city tax bills into 4 language - french is not one of them!

Perhaps the frustration comes because this has happened to Canada so quickly- 20 years perhaps. The last generation of immigrants were highly motivated to learn english and there was far less support and services to assist them. Those are the folks who are the most impatient now - if they could do it... why can´t this generation of immigrants.

The original story I posted and the issue are not controversial...and I have been very surprised at the reaction here. It is an everyday fact of life for those of us living with 50% of our community not speaking english as their first language. It is also an issue that needs a better solution - for everyones benefit.

The easiest solution & best way forward is that everyone should go back to his/her native continent. We leave Canada to its original native Canadians. You go back to your old Europe. How about that?

Re: your frustration in your doc´s waiting room, I will tell you later what you can do while there. am just busy at this minute.

the only person that needs to go back to their home country is YOU. Everyone else is welcome to stay.

Rude is unacceptable no matter where you live.

You are typical example of North American culture &mentality. They are very narrow minded indeed and know a little about the outside world, irrespective of how much they know of science and of course FORMATTING (if this makes you happier).

Why would you expect the Chinese and Indian community to speak English if they are sitting together? Do you consider this as a sign of respect to Miss Sharon?
Do you speak Mandarine, Urdu, or Indo when you visit there?
Ok ok, let me give you a striking example: you were born in Canada. You are aware that French Canada does exist.. rite? so did you make effort to learn to speak French when you go to Quebec? if you speak English in the waiting room of your Montreal doctor, would you tolerate the anger of the French Canadians there?

Anyway, I sent you a smile in a separate thread as a way of reconciliation..but I am not rude (be assured).

we have an Asian mall in Richmond called Aberdeen. Most recently, there was an article in the paper where merchants were telling the caucasian customers to go to another mall ´this is an Asian mall and we will speak Chinese here´.

Another story in Surrey where a Korean company bought an existing mall and refused to renew any of the leases for non-asian speaking tenants - they wanted to create a mall for asian customers ONLY.

You make a lot of assumptions about me - which you have not the faintest idea about.

I know that French Canada exists, I took french in school. If I lived in Montreal, I would assume that I would be expected to speak french. If I lived in my guys country, I know I would be expected to converse in Arabic or French. I would have no problem with the Montreal doctor´s office speaking french. I am the one that needs to adapt - not them. THAT IS EXACTLY MY POINT
