Subject: International Student -> PR??? Questions
I am currently in Canada as an international student specializing in microbiology. I am originally from Tanzania. I am planning to apply for PR next year when I graduate (April 2007). I have a few questions that I hope you guys can help me with. (sorry - long read)

Here is the deal; while in school I have been working as an admin assistant (part-time during school and full-time for summer) for 3years (i.e 12 months fulltime and 24 months parttime). How much experience will that count for?

Also I have only one year to go. At the same time I am taking a Clinical Research online diploma that I expect to be done by december. It will take me a total of 6 months to finish it. Will this count towards my education points?

I figured that if I could get a post-graduation work permit immediately after graduation, I will be better placed to apply for PR when I am working and have a guaranteed job. At the same time, I am not sure how easy it will be for me to find a job within the 90 day window so I was thinking to start applying with my diploma (if it can give me any points). What would you guys advice?

In my spare time I taught myself how to design websites and I am pretty good at it. In fact my job involves 70% website work and chances are good that my employer would accept to sponsor me with this job except that it is not within my field of study. Will this pose a big problem to my application?

Thanks in advance.
Thanks.

2 years

Points will be awarded based on years of Education and the degrees.

15+ Bachelor´s
18+ Master´s etc...

I dont think you will get points for 6 months diploma.

Its best to try to get a job within your field of study.

Postgrad work permit is only given for work in related area. You cannot work as an insurance agent after completing an engineering course.

To see whether your experience will be counted, check whether it is included in NOC. Your duties should match some of the duties, job title is of less importance. To calculate your work experience, count the total number of hours worked and divide it by 37.5. This will give you number of weeks worked. Remember, one year experience requirement is actually "one year continuous work experience".

Diploma of six months duration will most likely not fetch you any points.
