Subject: smoking in Canada
Hi all,

Anyone tell me please what about smoking in Canada, is it allowable? What about cigarettes prices?
I?m not that smoker (2-3) per day, but smoking in many European countries was prevented in most public places even in bars.

I hope its time to stop and save.

I know that in Ontario you cannot smoke in public places likes restaurants and bars unless you are outside, but some restaurants will have an enclosed smoking area. I am not sure about other provinces.

You can smoke in your own home or car, but in all "public places " like workplaces, and stores it is forbidden. In many cities, there are local by-laws that prevent smoking with-in 10 metres of a building entrance door and of course no smoking in cinemas or concert halls.

Tobacco sales in Canada are legal, but they are taxed very highly, to help to cover the cost of medical treatment of the diseases that smoking causes. Some Doctors here will not accept patients who smoke tobacco as patients. Smoking in Canada is seen as a socialy unacceptable habit, that is rapidly disappearing from our country. About 20 percent of Canadians smoke now, compared to 30 percent of the population, 10 years ago.

I don´t smoke so I cannot offer you an exact price but I think they run $7-8 for a pack of 20.

and Jim is correct... smoking has become an unacceptable habit. I have several friends who tell guests they have to smoke outside even if it is snowing, raining, freezing or the end of the world. Not in my house thank you very much.

It?s my friend Maida, she is from Poland live permanently with her husband in Czech rep, I encouraged her to apply for immigration Canada and she did, unfortunately her little daughter had an accident ,she in the main children?s hospital now. When I visited her she opened a discussion concerning the immigration process that she received a letter from the vise office, she asked me to get some explanation about her case and I wrote to you asking for help.
She is waiting for a reply, and we appreciate any help.
