May be obvious, but I would like to confirm this with someone.

Is it at all possible to live in Canada & work for s short term without a working visa?

Basically I´m looking to move over on a skilled worker visa, but before I do I would like to see how I like the life over there. I was curious as to the possibility of this. The benefits are obviously I get to see if I fit in to the Canadian lifestyle (it´s hard not to see Canada as a holiday destination with short term visits and not working), I get to apply for jobs and attend interviews easily while I´m there.

Just for info, I´m from the UK and I have scored enough to qualfy for the skilled worker. I´ll just find it a little hard to pull everything together from the UK without the need to employ an immigration agent to act on my behalf, which I have ventured down, but it seemed an awful lot of money just to find me a job

Thanks

Gary

Come as a vsitor., and look around a bit. (in reply to: Short term working visit)
Gary :

Canada allows a UK citizen to VISIT Canada for up to 6 months, without a visa.

BUT the very first thing that any prospective Canadian employer will ask is......are you legally allowed to work in Canada? Without the proper Government of Canada paperwork they can´t hire you. They can get in trouble for hiring any one who isn´t in Canada legally.

Obviously, Canada has a duty to protect employment for our own citizens, so that is why the regulations are in place.

Come for a visit, and while here look at the papers and check the ads to get an idea if your skills are going to be in demand here. If you have professional or trades skills, find out about becoming " recognised in Canada" in your area of knowledge. Most trades like plumbers and the like are required to be tested and qualified in the Province in which you plan to live and work. Once qualified to work in their trade, it is easy to get good paying positions in Canada, especially if you are willing to work in a "isolated northern work place " that will pay very highly, and with all costs of living covered. Mining, and construction, and the oil and gas fields are all crying for more workers.

More questions, ask here.
