Subject: CBSA Interview
My refugee claim was rejected some time ago and now I received a letter from CBSA to attend an interview. Do any of you know what this interview is about? Will I be given a departure or deportation order?
What are my options?

What you have to do:

If your claim is refused, you have 30 days from the date of the decision to leave Canada voluntarily.

Make immediate travel arrangements and inform CIC Enforcement Office of your departure date.

You must also arrange to end rental agreements, close bank accounts give notice at your job etc.

IMPORTANT: At the airport CIC will return your passport to you and make arrangements for your Certificate of Departure. This certificate is essential to prove that you left Canada officially. This is vital if you ever apply to return to Canada.

Deportation order:

A departure order automatically becomes a deportation order if you have been issued a departure order you do not leave Canada within 30 days as required or leave Canada without confirming your departure with CBSA.

If you have been removed as a result of a deportation order, you are permanently barred from returning to Canada. You may never return unless you receive written permission from an officer.

See CBSA site for more details Removals

My step-mom refugee claim got rejected on 3rd DEC 2009,we have made an appeal trough our lawyer...but,now she got a letter to attend the CBSA Interview in regards their removal order, at the 6900 Airport road, among all other documents to bring in her phone-bill and we wonder ,why is that when we had made the appeal?
I mean that ĞleaveĞapplication-was our lawyer late with submission? Why would they call so early?

Same thing happened (in reply to: CBSA Interview)
The same thing happened. We are not refugees, but we were denied of our request for visa extension and were told to be given 90 days to apply for restoration of status. We are planning to leave at the end of May, which still gave us plenty of time to contemplate. We applied with about 2 weeks to boot, and then, on the same day, we got a visit from them CBSAs. They took our passport and we were told that we could pick up a certified copy at a later date as alternate identification documents.

We applied for a request for restoration anyways, and we told them that was the case.

Little did we know, that "letter pickup" was interpreted as an invitation to an interview. She must have not realized it, so she said she´s not available, and a "letter of invitation" was included with the certified copy when we picked it up.

I was ignorant, and was thinking that if we cooperate, we showed them we had nothing to hide. Besides, we are already planning to leave by the end of next month, and have everything else terminated. If this 30 day business really showed at the end of this "interview", that means we will have to leave two weeks before we have planned. At the very least I hope, hearing our plans, they could be flexible. But I think they are more interested in flexing their authorities than to really help us.

So the questions are:

1) Could we refuse to talk to the CBSA agents when they showed up at our door?

2) Could they confiscate our passports?

3) Could they sneak an "interview" on us?

4) Was it really going to be an interview, or did they just tell us, you have 30 days from now to leave.

5) If, on the letter, we were told we had 90 days, why would they come do this before the 90 days are up? If one was already without status despite the 90 days, would that not encourage people in our situation to break the law, and therefore the law is not enforcible based on this inconsistency?

He is to apper for an interview with the CBSA in Mississauga. Will he be immediatly removed or will he be given time to get his things in order before he leaves voluntarily?

removal order (in reply to: CBSA Interview)
My common law partner just received a letter from Canada Border Service to report to 6900 Airport Road Entrance 93 for and interview. Does this mean she will be deported in 30 days or can we do something to make her stay. We are in the process of doing a sponsorship application.
