Subject: Can my U.S. husband visit me while paperwork done?
Hello: I am a Canadian citizen, marrying a U.S. citizen in May in Hawaii. Once we are married, he would like to come to Canada and live with me. I will start the process of sponsoring him but was wondering, can he visit for 6 months? while waiting for paperwork? I know he cannot work in Canada but could he live with me and continue working in the U.S? He would have to cross border daily tho. I live on the border of Ontario/Minnesota. When he moves in as a visitor, would he be allowed to move his personal possessions from the U.S. to Canada? We are confident he can get in as a spouse, or skilled worker.Do you have any recommendations that would ease the process? Thanks. If he could not cross border daily but maintain visitor status in Canada, could he just reside with me and not work? Between the two of us, financially he doesn´t have to work for the 6 months or however long it would take for the sponsorship to go through.

Your husband can visit and stay with you while the application is in progress. He can reapply to extend his visitors visa. After speaking to an immigration officer, I was told that you can apply more than once! You just need to state that the PR application is in the process which is the reason you want to renew the visa. I´m doing the same thing. The officer told me that my fiance has to tell the customs officer at the airport the exact nature of the visit (i.e. app in progress, marriage). As long as he is honest, the application process will go smoothly. Good Luck!
