Subject: pr - do i need a US visa to visit USA for a day
i am a canadian permanent resident,
and I would like to visit the USA for a day visit.

Do I need to get a USA visa, or can I just present my passport and permanent resident card at the US border? and gain entry?

How much does it cost?

us visa (in reply to: pr - do i need a US visa to visit USA for a day)
1) I think if you are a canadian PR and currenyly residing in canada, then you do not need visa to cross the canada-usa border
2) BUT if you are a canadian PR and currently residing in some other country say india, then you do need usa visa to travel from india to usa.

I think in the second case,, you can just travel from india to canada without visa and then cross the canada-usa visa without visa.

So in both cases you may not need us visa. Please advise if this is OK.

You do not need Visa to cross the Canada-Usa border only if you are Canadian.

Since you are Indian, you need a Visa.

Good luck.

Hi there
Only if you are a canadian citizen then you do not need a visa to US but if you are a PR and citizen of India then You do need a visitor visa to US which you have to apply at the US embassy in canada

The person asked the question so far didn´t disclose his/her nationality. So assuming Indian may be misleading.

Anyway Summarizing in short:

1. Only Canadian citizens (not PR) with canadian passport can enter into USA without visa (no matter the country of birth).

2. Whether you are a Canadian PR or non PR doesn´t matter for US entry without Visa. You DO need to have VISA regardless of nationality; exception, most of the western European countries like UK, France, Germany, Italy...Australia. They don´t need any visa to enter USA regardless of Canadian residency.

Visa application & appoinment can be made online, very hard to get the date. Must be planned way ahead. Fee is 100$+$9 for online booking.

Until March 2003 Canadian PR of commonwealth countries used to enjoy free entry into the USA without US visa like full Canadian citizens.

Unless you are from any of the following countries:

Andorra, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Brunei, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom*.

After May 15, 2003, citizens of Belgium must present a machine-readable passport in order to be granted admission under the Visa waiver program. This requirement also applies to citizens of Andorra, Brunei, Liechtenstein and Slovenia.

Canadian citizens (not PRs) don´t need to present a Passport at any land borders to enter the states, however they have to satisfy the CBP officer of their citizenship with supporting documentation.

Canadian citizen traveling to the US by air a PASSPORT is required.

Rest of the word a B1/B2 (turist and business) or C1 (transist visa) visa is required in order to visit or transit the US.
