Subject: Sponsoring my parents (social assisstance vs EI)
  Hello all,

I hope everyone is doing well. I have a question about sponsoring my parents. While the application is in process can i collect unemployment insurance benefit for about 2-3 months. I am just in between jobs right now for this year. Also I still well over maintaining the annual income requirement every year. I sent the application last summer and it is still in Mississauga. Is Unemployment insurance benefit considered as social assistance??

Thank you very much in advance.

Being on unemployment insurance will not exclude you as a viable sponsor for your parents as long as your income does not drop below the LICO in your personal case.

Sponsoring a spouse while on a disabiltiy pension does not also exclude you.

Just wondering if you had a nickel for every advice you give on this forum.
