This was a post I sent earlier re my first IELTS exam.

I re-took the exam and my new scores are as the following:
Reading: 8
Speaking: 7.5
Listening: 6.5
Writing: 6
===========
Total: 7
Maybe I need to admit that I suck in Writing. Any ways, I am fully covered with these scores.

You will get 12 points for your IELTS score.

u need atleast 7 in all bands to score total 16 points

CANADIAN,
That is quite not true. They do not care about the total of all bands. In my case, to be qualified for immigration, I needed to score two 7´s or above and two 5´s and above, which I achieved.

Canadian is right as he said you need a band of atleast 7 in each of the sections to claim full 16 points. In your case you are eligible for 12 English points and as you said you needed that much only so enjoy!!
