Subject: Working illegally then immigrating
A friend of mine is an international student and has authorization to work from CIC. She graduates this Christmas and the work authorization ends then. While she is eligible for a 1-year work visa following graduation as all international students are, she intends to return to her home country within 2 months, and thus doesn´t really want to waste the visa. However, she ultimately would like to return to Canada, ultimately as a perminent resident (sponsored as a common-law partner).

She currently has a job that she´s like to keep working at for those 2 months. Even if she applied for a visa, she´s not legally allowed to work until it´s approved and she has the authorization in-hand, which can take at least a month -- half the time she intends to stay.

My question is this -- if she chooses not to apply, and works illegally for the 2 months, will this affect her ability to immigrate at some point in the future?

We really have no experience with this, so any insights you might have are appreciated.

Just think about it for a second... I think your answer is in the title of your post.... WORKING ILLEGALLY....

Well just as an FYI if she is caught working illegally then that would GREATLY affect her ability to get PR in the future. Depending on the severeity she could quite feasibily be ´deported´.

They DO NOT take kindly to illegal working, regardless of the situation. Figure things out first, don´t risk it, especially if you have a lot riding on the future.

Well it is not a matter of legal or illegal. Can someone hire her and quietly pay under the table? US has tens of millions working like his. Everything is fine until one is caught. So if she is willing to take risk and has enough confidence in herself (needed to bluff the inadvertent run-in), she can do it. I know ppl who made over 50 thousand US$ working illegally. But they could fool even the INS cops, if it came to it!
