  Roy,

Thanks for the info.

May be I didn´t know this. As far as I knew, anybody going out of States must have a valid PP and entry permission to the country. I saw in my own eyes a Bangladeshi guy was denied boarding pass from Chicago to London-Bangladesh with an epired PP of just 3 days. I know that within US/Canada you just need a picture ID (US necessarily needs PP now) to board. Jim B. also confirmed that.

I have no problem with the without PR card entry. My wife also did it, she got an one time entry Visa from the Canadian consulate for 50$ as a substitute of PR card.

I still think Mr. JY must contact the Airline to confirm. Nothing wrong in that.

Business is Business and the IRPA is the rule not the US Congress nor US Senate on whom can and can not enter Canada. Other countries have their own laws too, suprise suprise. What the States require is based on US Law.

What document is required to board a plane for a particular destination is based on the Laws of the countries destination.

Any person being able to prove they were born in Canada, any first Nation person as defined in the Indian Act or any permanent resident as defined as per the IRPA has the right to enter Canada.

Airlines want to sell tickets. No one has to prove to a Travel Agent that they have a right to ener any particular destination.

If the airline check in counter person knows that a certain document like a Canadian Birth Certificate would be sufficent for CBSA to allow the person into Canada they will allow you to board. So would any land POE CBSA staff member.

If the flights destination allows persons with a different particular card to enter that country or destination of course they are going to allow you to fly with them especially if it is a non-stop flight. Just like the Hong Kong card.

US citizens do not need a passport to enter Canada yet! G.W. and Lou Dobbs have not established US exit visas yet!

Roy,

I didn´t know that airlines do allow international passengers without valid passport. My concern was not the question of adittance into another country, rather being able to board into the international flight. I think you are in immigration business and know better.

Thanks for the info.

Entry into US with valid passport for all is a totally different story, particular with US only.

Roy,

Thanks for your post. I did not know.
Every passenger in the line I was was holding their passport that is why I said that. I heard people talking about having to have their passport to travel nowadays.

But you know better!
Thanks again I learnt something today!

Yes, I can confirm that Roy is right. I talked to my airline and the Canadian Consulate. Both said that a passenger´s biggest concern is whether they are allowed into his/her destination country. In most cases, a valid passport is needed.

In my case, since I have a HKID card which proves that I am a citizen of Hong Kong, I am allowed entry into Hong Kong. Hong Kong immigration doesn´t even need to see any type of passport from me. All they need to see is my HKID. And that is good enough for the airline to let me board the plane.

Roy, thanks a lot for your expert advice!

Expired Canadian Passport (in reply to: Getting out of US with expired passport-ROY)
I am Canadian living in California. On August 4th I am scheduled to fly to Vancouver, BC - returning on August 8th. I discovered last night that my Canadian passport expired January 17, 2007. I have my Canadian birth certificate, US permanent resident card, California driver´s license and the expired passport. What are my chances of getting there and back again?
