Subject: Additional family information
  Hello everyone,
I have a questions regarding the IMM5406 form for spousal sponsorship. I am unablen to contact CIC centre at the moment, so if anyone is in the same situation, or can help me with this form, I will be very grateful. Since I am ONLY sponsoring my husband (and no one else, plus he doesn´t have any children), this is my question regarding tyhe above mentioned form: Since I am not sponsoring his mother, father, or any siblings, does he still need to include their names on this form?

Additional Info (in reply to: Additional family information)
Yes, you must answer all the question, whether or not, they are included in your application.

What does question say? What about guide? (in reply to: Additional family information)
Do not listen to previous person who said to fill out everything. Read the guide and it will tell you. What does question say? Additional family information about principal family whether they will come with him/her or not. That includes spouse and children. You do not put his family on the application, it say in guide not to include parents and siblings (unless they are coming with him).

Clarification (in reply to: Additional family information)

I hope that you don´t mind me pointing out a mistake in your underlying assumption.

The question relates to FORM IMM 5406(Additional Family Information), wherein you have to enter the information about Applicant´s spouse, mother, father, children and siblings.

You must have confused FORM IMM5406 with page 2 of FORM IMM 0008EGen (Application for Permanent Residence in Canada). For Page 2 of IMM0008EGen, which asks for Details of Family Members, you are not required to give information about Mother, Father & Siblings.

Of course, the original enquirer can choose to ignore my advice and leave the space blank. Let´s see how long it takes, before CIC returns the application for re-submission.

Ok Fine (in reply to: Additional family information)
Ok, I am not going to argue with you but I called the immigration myself to ask about additional family information and the person told me if my spouse is the principal applicant with no children and he is the only one coming to Canada, I do not need to include his parents siblings ect.

In Immigration guide Page 17 says
It is very important that you list on this form any other children (even if they are already permanent residents of canada or Canadian citizens) that you, your spouse or common- law parner or your dependent childre might have who are not included in Your Application for Permanent Residence. This includes married children, adopted children, step children and any of your childre who have been adopted by others, or who are in the custody of an ex-spouse or ex-common-law parner.

Does it say anywhere about parents or siblings?

Anyway, I might be wrong, so Immigration can be called. But if you are calling try to call on Wednesday, that is the best day and you will not be on hold for long.

Will,

I believe you are right, because I called the Call Centre, and they told me that even though my husband´s the only one being sponsored, we still need to include the info about his parents and siblings, because they just want some general information about his family. I explicitaly asked if that would mean that I will be sponsoring them also, and the agent said no (a=he understood my concern) and it is not advisable to leave those spaces blank, or write N/A because that confuses them even more (everybody must have had parents at some point).
Thank you everybody for your answers

Additional Family Information Form(s?) (in reply to: Additional family information)
Part of the confusion on this issue for me is that instructions indicate this form is to be filled out by BOTH the applicant AND by the applicant´s spouse. I would assume that to mean the spouse fills out his/her own separate copy of the form, but in that case the labels on the form are quite confusing: the first person listed is referred to as "Applicant," which is obviously not right if the form is being filled out by the spouse. I have seen this issue mentioned on another forum, but not with a very authoritative resolution. Does anyone have a REAL answer from the authorities to this problem (and not just what you might surmise from the vague and contradictory instructions.)? Thanks.... - tim
