Over a year ago I came to Canada w/ my husband who is on a student visa. I was granted a 5 year open work visa. A few months later I got a job and am now employed. Am I a landed immigrant? I ask this because everyone tells me I am eligible for OHIP but the OHIP office says I am not because there is no employer listed on my work visa. How do I change that?

The proper term is " Permanent Resident " and you are not one yet. (in reply to: Open work visa)
The proper term, now is Permanent Resident, not Landed Immigrant. You are not a PR status person yet.
The OHIP offcials are right. You need to have your working visa corrected re the employer´s name. Obviously, when you first arrived in Canada, you were not yet employed, so no name was entered on the visa. Contact the nearest Immigration Canada office and make an appointment to have the paperwork corrected, soon.

You get open work visa if you are dependent/spouse of a person on work/study permit. Now you can also obtain open postgraduate work permit after completing a course of minimum 8 months duration from Canada. The validity of open post graduate work permit cannot exceed the duration of the course.Also, post graduate work permit is given only once, irrespective of the number of degrees you complete in Canada.

Im a Canadian citizen and I´m trying to get my girlfriend over on a work visa, would it be just easier to marry her and get a open work visa than a sponsership?
