Subject: Student visa.
  Hi!

I have applied for Student Visa in the Washington embassy a month ago and have not heard anything ever since.

I have provided proof of funds, letter of admission, Passport, photographs, Proof that I am in US legaly.

I need to leave for Canada by August 15.

I have the following questions:

- Is the fact that I am a Russian citizen applying from within US slowing things down?
- Is there any way I can check progress of my visa?
- Should I start to panic?

Thank You.

Did you apply by mail or in person? If you applied by mail then wait for 1-2 weeks you will get a reply.

-The fact that you are a Russian citizen should not have an effect on the application process.
-You can fax them inquiring about the status.
-That is up to you. You can always delay landing in Canada, as not much happens in the first week of the academic term.

I applied in person. Submitted documents and pared the fee right there. Haven´t been in contact with the embassy ever since.

They told me it would take at least 10 buisness days.

Will inquiry about the process have any negative effect on the process (delay it, etc.)?
