Subject: Looking for Canada job from USA
I got my PR and plan to move to Canada in a few months. I am in USA. I don´t have a job yet so I am looking for it.

My question is: is it easier to find a job in Canada while you are physically in Canada or is it equally the same if I search for it from USA ?

I don´t know if I should move there and live on my own expense OR keep searching from USA (I have a job here so I get income)?

Thanks for advice

You can search jobs in Canada from US, no difference whether you are physically in Canada, you just have to use a Canadian address & phone no. as your contact. Not the US ones. Once you get any message there, contact the prospective employers. If you use US contacts then emplyers won´t be interested for you.

My high recommendation is, don´t move fully unless you find a job in Canada, job finding is the single most challange in Canada. Don´t compare the job finding experience of USA with canada.

Hey Lisa it all depends on your specialty and experience. Also, if you are single, you might want to look for a friend to hang out with while you search for jobs in Canada from inside. Departed are ya dead or something? LOL

Hey Departed_Canadian,

Hope you don´t mind my asking if you really gave up on Canada and departed back to the U.S. You´re quite knowledgeable about Canada, way of life, and how to best manage there. I just can´t believe that after going through the painful PR application process and getting PR status one would give that up and return to the U.S.

Could you provide any background or thoughts about Canada if this is true?

Richard,

First of all, my apology for the confusion. You already know me, I used to visit here sometimes as Shah. We had some good conversations earlier and agreed on our main point of views. I changed my name as it seems more appropriate with my background.

Hope you remember me. I sencerely hope your life is going smooth in Canada.

I don´t know a whole lot about Canada, but whatever I know I try to share that with others.

Shah,

Oh yes, now I remember from our past conversations. No need to explain further as we know each other well from previous discussions. Glad you clarified this is you!

I´m back in Chicago for now. Hope all going well with you as well. You do provide good advice and knowledge of Canada.

CoolCanuck is a dickhead! (in reply to: Looking for Canada job from USA)
CoolCanuck thinks that finding a pal to hang out with is more important than finding a job first!. What a shame-- hey you CoolCanuck , you better keep some opinions for your own good self.

Everybody knows what the jobs market is in canada. And thanks Departed_canadian for your ever valuable advise.

Hang out means sharing a place to live, to save money (in reply to: Looking for Canada job from USA)
Obviously, you didn´t understand the slang expression that Cool Canuck used..........

"Hanging out with some one " may very well mean that you are sharing an apartment with them to save money, while looking for a job in Canada.

English is a complicated language, isn´t it??

Well guys you are not replying my question properly.

I don´t know anyone in Canada whom I can give a phone number for potential employers to contact me.

I still don´t know if it is OK to search for jobs while in USA. I am scared to move without a job and live on my own expenses though I would do it if need be.

Lisa - I am in exact situation like you

Now if your in IT industry perhaps u might find something fast & get through phone interview if not eventually u have to move to Canada , job or no job , this is my problem as well, like where to move

Toronto & vancouver are flooded with new immigrants , Montreal is french and Calgary is growing fast but most of the jobs in Oil & energy industry
