Subject: Trade certificate advice please.
Hi, under the education section it has listed a one year diploma, trade certificate or apprenticeship.

Does anyone know, or where I could find out if a National and International Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in freight haulage would be considered as a trade certificate?

Although it is an International certificate, I think it would only be accepeted accross Europe.

Thanks for any help.

Not a recognised trade in Canada. (in reply to: Trade certificate advice please.)
Chris:

Canada has a thing called the National Occupational Code, that lists occupations for the purpose of immigration classification. It has a very long listing of job titles, and it breaks things down into really percise descriptions.

If I asked you this question...what does your certificate mean, in real world words? Could you sum it up in one sentence for us ?

In Canada when we talk about "having a trade certificate " that means being a fully apprenticed and now trained and certified plumber, electrician, diesel engine mechanic, or the like. Each Province in Canada has it´s own trades testing program, both written and practical tests, that a immigrant has to pass, before they can work in that trade, in Canada. There is also the "red seal trade certificate" that allows the person to work in ANY part of Canada, in their specific trade area. Everyone has to pay for and take a trades testing exam, in Canada, before they are "certified " in any specific trade.

In your specific case, the CPC in freight haulage won´t probably be recognised in Canada, BUT list it any way, under your educational history. Canadian employers may well find that CPC to be of interest, when you apply for a position that is in a related field of work. Of course they are much more interested in your practical working ability. In other words can you do the job they want to hire you for?

In the second largest country in the world, transportation is very important, to say the least.

Has this been of any help to you ?

Thanks for your reply Jim,

The CPC is a paid course that has exams to pass at the end of study. To opperate trucks in the U.K. (and Europe) you must have a CPC, or employ someone with one.

To be a Transport Manager here you would have to have a CPC, and Transport Manager is on the NOC list - but in reality it wouldn´t count for much in Canada.

Thanks again

Chris
