Subject: No Visa Entry for US PR
Hi my name is Sean and I am a US green card holder. I plan to visit Canada next month for my before-school vacation. From CIC website It seems that US PRs do not need a visa to visit Canada irregardless of their nationalities. I would like to confirm that with you knowledgeable people. It would be best if someone who has had the same experience before or knows something else who has, come forward and share his/her experience with me. At the mean time I will also contact Canadian Consulate in LA.

Thank you all.

I think you can. You can also see on the main home page of CIC. It says if you got a US PR , you don´t need to have VISA to travel to Canada. For more info , you can look at CIC homepage.

Is this a kind of discrimination? why Canadian PR needs a visa to visit US and not the opposite?

As an US green card holder, a visa is not required to visit or transit Canada.

And YES as PR of Canada you need a visa to enter the US unless that your country of nationality is part of the visa waiver program.

I´m on L1 (work visa) visa in USA.

IF I´m on extended I-94 (i.e. my L1 visa expires but the I-94 is valid because I-94 gets extended while in USA)
THEN

Anonymous, Yes you should re-enter into US within 21 days under Automatic Visa Revalidation (applicable for only within North America).

SutarB,
This is US law and they are not bound to Canadians for same immigration/visa rule. Every country have their own. Untill March 2003, it was almost even. No US visa was needed for the Canadian PR having passport of c´wealth countries.

Hi

some advices are wrong. USA Green card holder does not need visa to enter to Canada for 6 months. But you need to have your national passport with you either by air or road. I am a green card holder in USA and often visit my friends in toronto, never had Visa.
