How long does it take to get a work permit for Canada considering that you are with a company that is willing to transfer you there?

You need to be approved by HRSDC (in reply to: Work Permit)
If your present employer has operations in Canada, and they are willing to "assist you " with getting a work permit from Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, and they can PROVE that no Canadian citizen is able to fill the psoition, THEN you may be approved for a work permit, for one or two years.

It is not an automatic process. As you can see the process is designed to protect employment for Canadians, while allowing some latitude for Canadian based firms to bring in "needed persons" for a short period, to fill vacancies.

A short term work permit has limits. You can only work for the original employer, and if for any reason you leave that position, you have to leave Canada, too. If you are here for a period of time, on a work permit, it is possible to change to a Permanent Resident status, if you apply for it, and are accepted by Immigration Canada.

The time line to get a HRSDC approval letter and work permit can be as short as a few months, depending on the employer, and their HR department and their lawyers. They have to do the paperwork, and submit it on your behalf to Immigration Canada. You need to talk to the HR people at your present office and see what they are willing to do for you.

Good Luck.
