Subject: Applied in Buffalo but leaving US
Hi All,

I have very recently applied for Canada immigration through the Buffalo, under regular process as I have been living in US for over 6 years.
If I leave US permanently. Will I have to re-file the application?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Omar

we had a situation in the last 10 days on this forum where a poster left his application in Buffalo but left the country. He was called for an interview and could not obtain the necessary Visa to enter the US.

that would be your critical question. If you cannot attend an interview, you are hooped.

if you can be sure that you can attend an interview - I would leave the application in Buffalo. If there is doubt, advise CIC and they will transfer your application to your home country. I am unclear if you go to the back of the line, or what happens at that point. Different people have different theories. Roy might know, and he may have something else he can add.

If you leave US, you can inform CIC about change in residential address but keep a mailing address in US. In case you are required to attend an interview you will have to arrange for the visa.

If a file is transferred from one visa post to another the file does not end at the back of the queue. The AOR date of the file is kept the same. For example, you applied in July 2007 to Buffalo,NY, later on your file is transferred to London in July 2008. London consulate will treat the file as one with July 2007 AOR and not July 2008.

that makes sense but you revert to the overall processing time of that new embassy. In many cases that means a longer wait than Buffalo. That is the rub - potential longer wait against the potential of not being able to attend and interview.
