Subject: Does work permit stay with Employer or Emploee?
  Hi..

I am about to change employer, and I recently talked to a company that had a foregin worker quit.

They had heard that the permit itself stays with the company and that they could change the name on it if things like this happend.

Anyone know any information on this?

The LMO stays with the company but the work permit stays with the foreign national.

Hmmm.. (in reply to: Does work permit stay with Employer or Emploee?)
Which means that all they have to do is to get me a job offer on letter and i can come back into Canada´s port of entry and get my new permit?

WRONG

If you were admitted for one year all you need is a new employer who is willing to seek a (new) LMO for you. Then you apply to Vegreville and you got two years work permit.

Thought so.. (in reply to: Does work permit stay with Employer or Emploee?)
Yeah, so the old (but recent LMO) they got is worth the paper its written on for me.. In other words..

Nice immigration system.

a work permit is for a specific job with a specific employer. that is the condition of the permit. if the job ends, then so does the reason to be in the country. If you want a blanket permission to be in the country you need to apply as a skilled worker.

LMO and Permit (in reply to: Does work permit stay with Employer or Emploee?)
I think I ment to ask if the LMO stays with the employee or employer..

And as I now understand , it stays with the employer. But he have to get another one even when he just got one, but that guy quit after a short while.

My work permit is still open, so I am legal in the country. Now as for "No reason being in the country" is easy to say when you plan on staying here for 2 years. Get settled in many ways and get laid off due to lack of work after 6 months.
While you have 3-4 other employers withing the same occupation wanting you.

I just find it very odd, that when I am here on a work permit for a specific job /occupation , that I can´t change employer if it is a good enough background reason to it.

it is very unfortunate that you would be laid off after 6 months.

The whole reason work permits are given is because there is nobody already in Canada to do the job so being laid off because there is no work seems a drastic turn of events in a very short time.

Roy... others... this is outside my area of experience or familiarity - can he take a new offer and HRDC approval and go to the border for re-entry?
