Subject: Update #2
  Hey ALL,

Yesterday, we have received the passports from CIC-Buffalo, with nice Canadian PR visas stamped in them!!! :)

I would like to share something else with you. It is something that until now was thought to be impossible in Buffalo. As some of you may know, unlike other visa centers in the US, CIC-Buffalo does NOT return the passports by courier service, such as FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc. No matter how you send the passports to them, CIC-Buffalo always returns the passports unsing regular mail, or USPS Priority Mail. Even CIC-Buffalo´s website with passport mailing instructions (http://geo.international.gc.ca/can-am/buffalo/rightnav/mailing_instructions-en.asp), says .. "We will not return your passports by courier."

You guys know me, I don´t leave any stone unturned, and I wanted to at least try it! What I did, ..I sent the passports to CIC-Buffalo by FedEx Overnight. In the FedEx envelope I have included our passports, 3 photos per person, copy of PPR letter, AND.. (here it comes!) ..1 USPS Priority Mail envelope AND 1 FedEx Express Overnight envelope (BOTH PREPAID, of course!)

Ok, so I mailed the passports out Monday morning. They arrived in Buffalo (according to FedEx tracking website) on the following day, Tuesday, @ 9AM EST. The passports were stamped on the very same day (!!!) AND mailed back to me using the FedEx Overnight envelope (!!!). Yes!!! The envelope arrived here yeasterday afternoon after 2 days en route and 0 (ZERO!) processing days in Buffalo. Is this something for the "Guinness World Records" or what?!?!? :)))

We will land and remain in Canada for good before Dec 1st.

Good luck everybody!

Uniden :)

HI Uniden,

That´s a great news for you! And for others (like me!) who will definitely try this trick.

I am waiting for PP request and wondered how I was going to send them.

I have 2 questions:

#1 How much did you pay the prepaid Fedex overnight envelope ? Is it a flat rate ? Because we need to send a total of 5 passports. Do you just go to any Fedex store ... I mean how do you prepay them ? I didn´t know you could do that.

#2 Why did you send 3 photos per person, is it necessary ?

Thanks again for responding

I will definitely follow that trick.

Our medicals will expire end of June 2008. PR visas will expire on exact same day.

CBV333:
1) The cost is calculated by FedEx based on your location AND weight of envelope. I paid $20.00 for a one-way FedEx overnight envelope from Buffalo to me (Florida - as far South as you can go in the US), and the price is valid for up to 1Lb of weight. Both passports + photos + PPR letter + 2 prepaid envelopes (USPS + FedEx) weigh about 6 ounces, so with 4 passports you will NOT pay more than $20. ..And let me tell you.. the $20 were very well worth the expense. Every cent of it!!! :)
I have a FedEx account, so it is VERY easy to create prepaid FedEx shipments using FedEx´ "RETURN SHIPMENT" option. I do not know how to create a return shipment without a FedEx account. Maybe you should explore creating one right now, it´s FREE! It´s worth the 5-minute effort.

2) PPR letter asks for 3 photos/person. You will find these instructions inside your PPR letter. I took US-size passport pictures @ Walgreens (2" x 2"), and cut them to measurements (35mm x 45mm) myself as soon as I got home.

I wish you a speedy PPR!!!! :))))

Congratulations Uniden. You have done all the right stuff. You anticipated CIC´s reasons not to send things by courier and solve their problem for them - well done.

At the end of the day, many of our struggles are against logic and you responded in a logical manner!

I would say Canada is lucky to have you. may I be one of the first to say WELCOME.

Thanks Uniden.

It is definitely worth $20. I will create a Fedex account today and get this ready the day I get my PPR letter. Good to know about the 3 photos so I can prepare them in advance.

I am not so far from Florida so cost will be about the same.

THANK YOU!

I will get back to this to inform this forum if this trick has worked for me too. I still have to wait for PPR in the mean time.

I think everyone should try this trick and see if it works well for everyone.

Thank you Sharon! :)

This WELCOME "sounds" much better when it comes from someone "I know" than from an immigration officer at the border. Thanks!

Remember that the Unidens and Sharon will soon go out for an ice cream in Vancouver! :)

That´s the way to go!!! Nothing is better than proactive thinking!

..And yes, I am also VERY interested to know whether the "trick" works for others. It would be AWESOME if it does!

I think you dont really need to create a Fedex account. All you need to do is go to fedex store in your area when you are sending your passports and tell the clerk you need a return envelope for about the same weight. That way you will only be paying the exact shipping, no more no less.

And Uniden Congrats to you. I am not quite there yet but I was thinking of doing the same trick once I get the passport request. Now that you have mentioned it that it worked fine for you, I will do the same. Once again congrats and good luck.

Thanks Raza,

I live very close to a Fedex store I may just do that though I created an account with them today!

I believe sending a return envelope is a good idea, it should work. When I get PPR I will do that and see if we get passport back in 2 days.

Yes Raza do that too and tell us if it worked.

Uniden I offered a beer and not an ice cream. Either way both are good.

Uniden I´m gone for a week in Quebec as of now. The first vacation in four years. Keep in touch.
