Subject: India Police Certificate
When I applied in Jul 2007 for Canada PR I had taken Indian Police certificates for me and my wife from a local police station based on our current Indian address. What I am seeing in this forum is that, we need to get PCC from every state that I resided in India.

Currently I am in the US. Would it be helpful to go ahead and get a Indian PCC through the Indian consulate in the US and send the certificates to CIC even before they ask for it? Just to be on the safe side and avoid processing delays?

Let me know.

Thanks

DONT send anything until they ask for it.

We also applied for our Indian PCC at the Indian Consulate in Houston (in our case), it is quite quick. I don´t remember exactly but the timing is clearly shown on their website.

A PCC is valid for only 6 months so if you want to apply for it in advance is OK but remember to stay in the timeframe.

I don´t know about certificate in every state, we got one per person and we got approved. We submitted all our PCCs at the time of submission.

Yes, u have long way to go now until u get IA, where u are close to IA , apply for PCC at indian embassy , PCC expires in 6 months , so no point in working on that now

Whoever tells you that you need a PCC from every State you´ve lived in within India is talking nonsense.

The thing to remember here is that you will be applying
for a PCC from a COUNTRY, not it´s internal States or
Provinces.

Applying at the Indian Consulate where you live would be
the fastest and safest bet for you. If you passport is
issued at that mission or post, you normally get your
PCC in 1-2 working days. However, if your passport is
issued outside the city where you live, then you would
need to wait longer. If you´re living in the US on
a passport issued in India, minimum waiting period is
30 days.

All my comments above are based on the assumption that
you hold a valid resident visa for the US (ie, you´re not
visiting there)!
