Subject: i?m a canadian citizen and had been threatened
Ok this is my story...Im a canadian citizen that lives in el salvador central america since 1985... i personaly think El salvador is a great country.. the weather is beautiful and the people are extremely kind. The only complain i might have is the high delenquency wich in the last past years has increased exaggerated.
I?m married to a great salvadorean guy and have 3 lovely kids together...we own a small business (restaurant)so i could say we are well established here...But a couple of months ago we experienced something we never thought would happen in our lives; a group of guys came into our establishment and told us they were a member of a gang and that wanted us to pay a rent or tax which i think is to high and we will be obligated to close. We are so scared we dont know what this people can do to us if we dont obey.
The reason i came to this forum is becouse i even thought moving back to canada with my husband(salvadorean)and kids(already canadian) but becouse i dont live in canada im afraid i cant sponsor my husband and i defenetely don?t want to leave him alone.
So my qestion is should i tell the canadian embassy what is happening to us becouse even telling this story scares me couse they asked us to be silent within the police...And maby we should apply for a refugge program or maby just apply for a regular sponsorship?
please if someone has an oppinion i will be gald to listen. Thank you for taking the time to read this and i wil appreciate any sugestions. XOXO

Hi

As a Canadian citizen you can sponsor your husband from outside Canada even though you live abroad. CIC will need sort of evidence that you will be back to establish your life in Canada once the application is done.

If I were you I would report the incident to the Canadian embassy there. The embassy will guide you on how to sponsor your husband. There is no minimum income for you to qualify in family sponsorship category. The embassy will also take every measure to protect you and your children.

Good luck

I agree. I would also report the incident to the Canadian embassy. Afterall, Canada is your home country of citizenship which is responsible for affording you all advice and protection due to its citizens abroad. They may have had similar reports from others Canadians, and therefore may have advice and information about similar situations you may not be aware of.

Richard Reporting criminals in certain countries can get you dead.

I lived in Ukraine for about six years where they throw grenades at politicians and push steel plated Mercedes over the cliffs by using big dump trucks. Most of the Mafia is government organized.

Unlike the US if Canadian´s are in trouble abroad going to the Embassy is not going to help much unfortunately. Google the ARAR case and you will understand better.

Letting the VISA Post know or the counsellor section after she has sponsored the Husband may make them process the file quicker. Having two children with this man registered as Canadians even if they were born there would be sufficent grounds to waive the Spousal Interview.

Thanks Roy. I assumed Canada´s protective policy for its foreign nationals was similar to the U.S. It´s actually surprising and disappointing that Canada is not as supportive.

I suppose it may be because Canada doesn´t have aircraft carrier fleets at its disposal (U.S. style) to send off the coasts of countries it doesn´t like or who threaten its citizens.

Canada is wiser. USA is the real threat to its own citizens and to others because of its stupid carrier fleet mentality. Considering the Roman Empire, and other empires history, this is the beginning of the end..I am afraid.

Sutar, yes in this respect I agree with you. The U.S. likes to throw its weight around the world using pressure of military maneuvers.

But there´s something wrong when one hesitates to seek the protection and advice of your home country´s embassy for fear of local retribution.

I think Roy wanted to be more "for reality and real life" rather than false hopes and high expectation. However, I still do believe that reporting to Canadian Embassy is a mandate in a case like this.

Can you remember, after 9/11 and the invasion of Iraq, the Americans abroad used to pretend being Canadians, giving the similarity of accent and background. This was a manouvre to avoid facing danger and risk abroad. Canada had to complain officially and took the pretence matter seriously because it could put Canadians themselves into risk.

When one is threatened in a foreign country it is the job of that countries police type force to enforce that countries laws. That said sometimes its better to run then fight.

Yes I agree. I got your point. But the embassy of your country can also help you on how, when and where to run.

Agree with Roy.

In some countries, better run than fight if you want to stay alive. VERY TRUE.
