Subject: Is Traveler's check good to carry ?
Hi guys! Did anyone miss me?? ;)

I´ve been really busy and not around for a while!

To show proof of funds available at the port of entry, is it OK to carry a traveler´s check instead of cash or is there any other way?

TIA.

Hi Almost Perfect

I did!
I was going to post something like "Where is Almost Perfect .. anybody knows ?" but you came back!

You missed the "discrimination" heated debate, it was in 3 parts!

Anyway, I am not sure about traveler´s check but I remember reading on this forum that ANY forms of money that can be "redeemed" directly into Canadian Dollars would work. So my guess is YES though I am not 100% sure.

All they want to see is you can show you can support yourself and your family until you find a job, i.e. in their standards for 6 months. So you cay pay rent, bills ...

Others may have the experience for showing proof at landing. I am still not yet in Canada so I won´t know for sure. I plan to show US most recent bank statement and transfer the money electronically though I am not sure if that is what others do.

Thanks CBV! Its nice to know that we appreciate each other on this forum.

I will complete my landing formalities between 20 and 25th September 2007. Right now I am busy making plans, buying tickets, collecting documents which I may need in Canada, shopping etc.

Please post the web page of the debate you are talking about. I will atleast read it if not participate.

The debate was called "discrimination" and ended yesterday but I guess it was too hot to handle and it seems to have been removed from this website. It was on here only. It is better to forget about it.

Please stay on this forum after you land and tell us your landing experience. I am not there yet still waiting for my PP request, though I guess they don´t request PP if they don´t have your medicals and our medicals haven´t reached yet.

Where in Canada are you planning to settle ?

Traveler cheques are just fine. Also you may use a certified cheque or a cashiers cheque.

Happy landing.

Thank you guys!

CBV, I will stay here and guide as much as I can.

As far as I remember you may have another year or so before you get PPR. Relax, it will happen before you know it.
I will land in Toronto but may move elsewhere depending on the opportunities I get.
