Hello everyone,
I´m an American but think I would enjoy spending sometime in Canada working. I´m really tired of America and Americans and Canadians seem to have much better dispositions. Have any of you have a story you can share about knowing an American who was able to secure a quality job in Canada and ended up moving there and residing there for years after?
Thanks

(in reply to: Need a change of scenery) depending on your skills, it is called a work permit.

(in reply to: Need a change of scenery) Dude you can show up here on a visit and check out the job market for yourself! Someone may have failed or succeeded but your case can be different from all the prior arrivals. I think one guy on here (goes by the name Richard) arrived sometime ago is look hard to find employment. But you are a whole different case so you might some faster than others. Try your luck.

(in reply to: Need a change of scenery) We´re Americans on work permit in QC. We´ve been here for over 2 years and are now applying for our PR. My husband was looking for a job, and he just happened to find one in Canada. As a US citizen, you can just come for a visit. To see if you would qualify to immigrate as a skilled worker, you should also visit the Canadian immigration site:

There´s a lot to learn about living in Canada. It´s not all hockey and beer. Good luck.

(in reply to: Need a change of scenery) Hey Elvis Dude,
I casually looked for a job in my field of specialization in a small blue collar town in Canada and didn´t find what I wanted. Was I surprised? - not really, but wanted to make a go of the place and still value the experience.
So I wouldn´t say I tried Canada and couldn´t find a job. I was offered a spot in Toronto in my expertise which I turned down, not wanting the big city life and expensive housing. So this dude is still feeling good about job options in Canada.
My advise is to not let people´s stories about their job experiences affect a move to Canada. It´s all just anecdotal anyway.
