I´m extremely scenic about Candian job market, though ironically I defer here with Janu.

It is very hard to be licensed as a physician. True. BUT, among all professionals in Canada, this is one of the rare one where you don´t need any experience to begin. You have to pass the test (few parts), and after passing your job is warranted by the Government. Big question still remains, how to pass? YES, it is very difficult, needs lot of study and commitment. But is is worthy. My own sis is a doctor in ON. She is kind a genious, but some of her class mates who were mediocre also passed the exams and started career.

Path is not easy at all, but yes, it is possible. I would be more than happy to see similar career path for all professions, which at least gives a fair chance of competition.

1) The licensing exams you need to pass, to practice in Canada are:

1. successful completion of the MCCEE (evaluating exam)
2. successful completion of the Qualifying Examination Part I (MCCQE part 1)
3. successful completion of the Qualifying Examination Part II (MCCQE part 2)

Information about the Evaluating and Qualifying Examinations of the Medical Council of Canada may be obtained from

Medical Council of Canada, Box 8234, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, KlG 3H7, telephone: (613) 521-6012, fax: (613) 521-9417 www.mcc.ca

2) One year of unpaid clerkship requirement for IMG´s in Ontario.

One the requirements for obtaining a residency in Ontario, is to first obtain and complete one year of unpaid post-graduate training.

Good Luck.

Janu,

I don´t know whether you any of my previous postings before; I´m here the most scenical person about Canadian job market.

Though, I believe that if Canada needs really any professionals, that is the physicians. Requirements for passing is very high, no doubt, for good reasons. So, they have to study and compete also harder. I don´t think CIC has even category for physicians in the point system.

If you look around any city, you´ll find many foreign named physicians board. Don´t you? My sister is currently practicing in London, a small city, where in our small community which is way smaller than Indian or Chinese moved in the last 3 years. They also had to study hard for 1/2 years to pass the exams, true. But they did it.

I don´t know which province the physicians you are talking about. But in ON, as far as I know if you pass all the parts then your job is almost warranted. There is a option that you can skip a certain part and look for placements by yourself.

It is true that I don´t know in details about the physicians, all I came to know just from inside my community. If you know soem real stats then please let me know. I had to move to the US for many good reasons, so I´m more US biasses. But to tell you the truth, in US also after passing both of the parts with high scores, many International Medical Graduates have to wait for long. Though, their examination system is much easier than
Canada.

Very short, very hard but is still possible, needs hard work and commitment, no point of discouraging anyone. At least nothing wrong in trying rather than delivering pizza or washing toilet. Isn´t it? I would rather prefer to come into Canada as a physician, than an Engineer and take the challenge.
