Does anyone know how legal/not legal this is, and how common it is? I need money for school, and I am an eligible guy living in British Columbia, with a clean record. I heard of people doing this for a sum of ten thousand canadian dollars, and I would probably be willing to do the same to help someone immigrate to Canada. email me at just_watch_me@rock.com, or post here if you have some info about this topic, or want to inquire.

Before doing someting illegal and completely idiotic consider this:

If you go ahead with this plan of yours and sponsor someone YOU will be financially responsible for your (illegal) spouse for a period of 3 years. Even if you seperate from that person a few months after her arrival in Canada as PR you will still be financially responsible for her.

My advise - ITS ILLEGAL and not worth it!

It is illegal... (in reply to: Considering marrying for money.)
If you really need the money for education:: My advise is go for it!!! The problem is that if you do not know what kind of person you will marry BE REALLY CAREFUL!!In theory you have to be financially responsible. But the problem might come if the person you sponsored does not find a job and uses the Welfare!! You will have to pay that money back to the government!!!

student loans are legal, less risky and you will never need to wait for the government to come looking for you to pay unknown sums of money because you made a bad decision in a moment of insanity. $10,000 is not worth it.

dear eligable guy:
you meet the girl of your dreams next year. She is not Canadian. You fall madly in love and want to get married. One problem. You cannot sponsor her because you have already sponsored someone and she has taken social assistance. You are now broke because you must pay lawyers, divorce fees, repay government for the welfare and the rest of your student loan. Marry for love not for money.
