Will application be returned?

Subject: Will application be returned?
  Hi

I have made a mistake when submitting my application for immigration as a SW on September the 20th. I have left spaces that did not apply to me blank instead of inserting "N/A". Somehow I seem to have completely missed this instruction when filling out the application!

It´s really unfortunate: I thought I had filled out everything correctly, turns out I have not

Does anyone know from experience whether my application will be returned to me because of this mistake? Having reread the instructions, it says it will. I was just wondering from practical experience whether that is common, or whether somehow we could get away with it.

Thanks

Thats why I will go through immigration lawyer (probably ROY) as soon as I finish some extra studies....

Even if most of the people here say, you have instructions ...... at CIC, its better to hire a immigration lawyer and you will not get a headache

Sorry Seldom this doesn´t has to do with you, its my opinion in general.

Thanks

I left a single space blank to a question in my application also forgetting to write N/A, and my whole package was returned in the mail. I´m sorry to say that´ll probably happen too with yours Seldom, but I hope not, as you never know how they might handle it every time.

Even though that happened to me, I never once regretted doing the application myself and saving a few thousand dollars in unnecessary immigration consulting fees. My thinking is I can answer my own questions just as well as an immigration consultant when filling out my application. That money can instead go to moving and house hunting costs.

I´m not saying immigration consultants are not needed. There are many complicated cases out there where their services are very valuable in that they know the immigration immigration laws inside and out. But for me, it was a simple SW application that I was able to handle fine myself.

Thank you for your replies guys

Richard, I just had 2 questions for you that I wanted to ask. I have now filled out the application forms again, and will send them tomorrow morning (with a cover letter explaining the story) instead of waiting for the application package to be resent (I have not received it from my side, so I hope they have not resent it already from their side). Do you think this is a good idea, or should I instead wait until I receive the whole package?

I am also wondering whether I have to fill out absolutely every single space? What I mean by that is: Do I have to fill out every row in the military service, governmental positions sections for example? I just filled out the top row in every section, assuming they would understand that the whole section does not apply to me. Is that okay do you think? I just feel it would not make sense to fill out absolutely every single space.

Thanks

Seldom

Yes, I think your understanding is correct about not having to fill-in every single space for each section. In your example, if you had no military service, then filling-in one N/A in the first entry would be sufficient for them to understand that the whole section does not apply to you. That´s exactly what I did.

Secondly, it´s hard to say if resending a 2nd copy of your
application package will prevent them from sending the 1st back (if that´s what they intend to do). Personally, I probably would resend a 2nd. But as you said, I would add a short cover letter noting the error in the 1st, and the correction in the 2nd.

I don´t think it would hurt to try and may prevent delay.
Going back and forth in the mail with packages takes a long time, and simply resending now might avoid all that.

Good luck, Seldom.

What is the rush? Wait till you get your application back. They would have highlighted the sections that you have missed. So, you will be able to get it accepted this time for sure.

Why not correct a known problem now? Rush - is typical waiting periods of 2-5 years rushing? I´d rather fix things now and move on with my life.

His file has not been created so if he sends the updated forms now it may lead to confusion as it is difficult to track it. Also, whats the guarantee that his file has not been sent back yet?

He will get a chance to fix things up when he gets the file back (with highlighted items) or if he is damn sure that his application will be returned he can submit altogether a new application. I just gave my two cents. May be its not the best advice but I am sure its not the worst either.

Thanks for all your responses. I really appreciate it.

I guess I am just worried about waiting until my application package is returned. One of my police certificates from abroad will expire by the end of October (26th of the month). I am worried that I would have to issue a new one if I wait for too long: it could take me up to 2 months to get the new one, which will delay my new application for too long!

It seems that no matter one, I am heading for a 3 months delay in my application because of this stupid mistake. I doubt I will be able to receive the package resend it, and have CIC receive it before the 26th of October...

I am thinking of calling CIC immigration tomorrow morning to ask them whether I should wait, or go ahead and send the amended application forms. Not sure what their answer will be, never called them in the past.

Seldom,
I had done the same thing and I got my application back in a month. So I sent the new one after that, I think it will be better to wait and see everything that you missed marked by them (you just think that you know everything that you missed, wait till you get it back) and then send in another application.
