What if your circumstances change?

Subject: What if your circumstances change?
I´ve applied for Skilled Worker immigration to Canada on my own as a single person, but only a short time ago.

Now it looks like my boyfriend and I might move in together, and we´re talking about going together. How can we do this - and CAN we do this?

I thought it might be as simple as getting in touch with the Visa Office to say my circumstances have changed and adding mr wendykroy as a dependant family member (because my points add up to more than his). Once we move in together he´d be my common-law partner. Am I right or is it more complicated? Will his points be assessed if he´s a dependant or will he just have to pass criminal record and health checks?

Long time lurker, first time poster - so thanks for the help!

You are a common-law partner?either of the opposite sex or same sex?if:

* you have been living together in a conjugal relationship for at least one year in a continuous 12-month period that was not interrupted. (You are allowed short absences for business travel or family reasons, however.)

According to this, I do not think your common-law relationship will start the day your partner moves in with you.

So does that mean that we qualify as a common-law couple from 12 months after we move in together?

I only submitted fairly recently and the London Visa Office say it´ll be around three and a half years until we´re processed, so I figure then if we move in together soon, we´ll have counted as a common-law couple for around two and a half years by the time we´re processed.

I think the answer is yes for your question. However, your relationship will have to be conclusively proven.

Ah, I guess that´s to prove we´re a real couple? SO as well as bills, paperwork, etc, we´d have to have photos, etc?

That´s no problem!

Thanks for the info Samm!

STOP AND THINK SAMM

A CONJUGAL RELATIONSHIP IS NOT A BOYFRIEND/GIRFRIEND OR PARTNER/PARTNER RELATIONSHIP. WENDYKROY AND HER PARTNER ARE IN THE SAME COUNTRY AND SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET MARRIED.

JOINT CELL PHONE PLAN, PHOTOS, AND CABLE BILLS PROVE NOTHING. THERE HAS TO BE MAJOR PROOF OF COMBINING LIVES TOGETHER, LIFE INSURANCE, WILLS, PROPERTY ETC.

CONJUGAL IS A RELATIONSHIP THAT FOR SOME REASON THE TWO CAN NOT GET MARRIED!

ANY CONJUGAL RELATIONSHIP HAS TO BE VALID FOR A YEAR ALSO JUST LIKE COMMON LAW RELATIONSHIPS. YOU HAVE TO PROVE VIRTUALLY THE SAME ISSUES AS COMMON LAW BUT ALSO PROVE WHY THE TWO OF YOU ARE UNABLE TO RESIDE TOGETHER FOR A YEAR. TAKE A LOOK AT THE COMMON LAW FORMS.

WENDYKROY HAS NO REAL CHANGE OF MARITAL STATUS BECAUSE ALL SHE WILL BE DOING IS PLAYING HOUSE UNTIL A FULL YEAR EXPIRES.

A CONJUGAL RELATIONSHIP HAS TO BE THAT THE TWO CAN NOT GET MARRIED (NORMALLY BECAUSE OF COUNTRY CONDITIONS)AS WELL THAT THEY CAN NOT RESIDE TOGETHER ETC. AND CONJUGAL IS NOT CREATED TO REPLACE THE FORMER FIANCEE PROVISIONS.

WENDYKROY PARTNER MOVES IN AND HOPEFULLY ALL WORKS PERFECTLY OR THE PARTNER SNORES OR WORSE, THEY ARGUE, THEY FIGHT AND THE PARTNER/ROOMMATE IS HISTORY!

READ THE OP2 MANUALS FOR A CLEARER DEFINITION OF CONJUGAL.

Roy, I am confused. The links I provided, are about common-law relationship and not conjugal relationship. I guess thats what the original poster also asked about. Am I wrong? By the way difference between conjugal and common-law , I am already aware of.

Yeah, I was thinking we´d be common-law rather than conjugal. We´re of opposite sex (although we live in a country where that wouldn´t matter anyway, we´d still be able to get a domestic partnership), we´re both citizens where we live and we aren´t married to anyone else so I didn´t think we´d be "conjugal".

The thing is, we´ve been together a long time - I have a ring on my finger and we spend virtually all our time at each other´s places but it´s just taken us a while to actually get round to doing the paperwork and the official things!

Until you have lived together for one year is CIC definition of common law relationship.

I did not sleep well last night and may have jumped the gun after I saw this Samm * you have been living together in a conjugal relationship
