  Hi,

I just happened to pass by, and saw the string of postings on the moral and ethical issues relating to use of a credit card to generate funds for Canada Immigration. The Lady has been vehemently arguing that, the fact that the money was borrowed against the credit card, makes it ´encumbered´. How silly! I own two houses, each worth more than million Indian Rupees, in India, and also hold a few hundred shares, again worth several million Rupees. And yet, when the time comes for me to ´demonstrate´ to the immigration officer that I am in possession of the requisite funds, I wouldn´t think twice before borrowing against one of my credit cards, rather than selling any of my steadily appreciating assets. I have a regular source of income every month, which would take care of the instalments due on the Credit Card, arising out of the cash withdrawal.

Does it make sense? To me it does!

Another Raj,
I am glad you agree with my point. But that woman who wants us to believe she has high moral standards does not agree with us.
She is sitting with a cup of coffee in front of her keyboard and spilling out nonsense here and we people from the third world country is busy busting our brains on how to make ends meet, how to satisfy the immigration authorities legally, how to avoid trouble because we have ambition and the will to get ahead in life.

We borrowed money on our credit cards, mortgage our homes, borrow from friends and this woman is saying we are wrong.
Does this woman has any moral authority to dictate to us what is right and wrong?

Read all the issues on this credit card business here and tell me if I am wrong, I hope she didn´t delete some of them.

go and read the OP6 manual and find out for yourself rather. CIC tells people clearly not to sell their assets before it is time to land. If you have a property with a mortgage and there is equity in that property - that is all that CIC cares. If you declare on your application that you are bringing that equity to Canada and you sign that document you are legally declaring that you have sufficient settlment funds.

Credit Cards not required. Available and unencumbered funds are. Equity is YOUR unencumbered money. There is no obligation on the equity.

If you don´t have money in the bank but have 10-15K in assets such as a car or household goods that you intend to sell when you leave for Canada... is that unencumbered funds? yes. is it without obligation - yes. Is that what Canada is looking for - yes.
