Subject: Can I work in US as Canadian PR ?
  Hi,

I am from India and I wish to know that if I become Canadian PR , then what are the legal possibilities of my working in US ?

1) Can I work on H1 visa issued to me earlier while I was in India ?
2) Any other visa or programme like (T1 or TN visa )which enables canadian citizen to work in US. If such visa is applicable to Canadian PRs
3) Can I come to work on a daily basis in US and return to Canada in the evening, this way I will be able to work in US as well as able to spend time in Canada that will be counted as time spent in Canada so after 3 years of this daily up and down will I be able to become canadian citizen ?

These questions came to my mind as people says that its difficult to get job in Canada, so this could be a better alternative as a backup plan.

Regards

RKumar

Kumar,

According to your serial:

1. YES. No problem with that, however, have to be careful about the residency obligations (2/5 years min´m) and tax filing.

2. TN is not for the PRs. Citizens only.

3. YES. Many Canadians/PRs used to do that, like living in Windsor Canada and working in Detroit USA.

And if you lucky to have a Canadian employer who can send you to US on business, I don´t think you need to do this up and down thing !! is that correct DC ?

Oh ok, good to know, and that seems like a better scenario as L-1 are unlimited, that is why lots of immigrants form a company on their name in Canada and then jump on the plane to US.

Thanks Dc and Raj for your inputs, Does being a Canadian PR I will get Canadian passport ?

If not then but do you think I will be eligible for H1 or L1 visa from being a Canadian PR ?

As far as I know Kumar....
Canadian PR cannot get you a passport, its only for citizens.
Also, its not going to affect how US is going to look at before granting you H-1 or L-1..... basically if you are thinking that canadian PR is the solution to get you to the US immediately, then fuggetaboutit !!!

DC, looks like there was some heavy cleanup yesterday, don´t remember what all went down the drain, but I´m happy too NOT see those posts with 10, 11 replies !! thanks to the webmaster !

Kumar,

Canadian PR does´t have Canadian PP. Have to stay 3 out of 4 years physically in Canada to get that.

Your Canadian PR ship may help you in US H1/L1 a bit. Advantage will be you wouldn´t need to wait to have the Visa stamping in your PP in India. You will be able to do that from US embassies in Canada. That´s it. Other than that no privelage.

Raj,
I´m also glad to see all of the garbage cleanup but didn´t understand the reason for deleting my innocent thread. That´s why I said that.

Does that mean that for L1 or H1 , my Indian Passport will be used. In that case H1 quota for India will be applicable or Canadaian quota.
