  Hi All

I am a Canadian PR and recently applied for a visitor visa to the US. I am currently working on a voluntary basis as a research assistant. I was in the US for 11 years on F-1 and then a H-1 visa. I moved to Canada as my H-1 was expiring and since I received my Canadian PR. My brother sent me the affidavit of support and other documents to facilitate the visa. The immigration officer went through my application and to my surprise asked me to submit additional details on my job/research. He also mentioned that it will take 4 weeks for a decision to be made on my case. Did anyone go through a similar process. I am confused since I don´t know whether my application is refused or will be approved. Wanted to check from others who receieved a similar response from the US immigration

Thank you all!

Follow the post br sara here subject: "Please need advice from Roy and other senior memeb"

Looks like exact same situation. May be the same person?

If you are denied the Visa then US embassy tells in the interview and give the PP back. Doesn´t take any farther documentations, so looks like they´ll issue you the visa upon verification of your papers, it´ll just take time.

Just a technical side for future refernce, Visa issuing is not controlled by the US Immigration (INS/USCIS). Visa issuing is under US Dept. of State. They are called Visa officer, not immigration officer.

I never heard berfore they need education related publications while you apply for visitor visa. For tourist visa they need proof of job..properties..family ties such things. As Tourist visa doesn´t need to evaluate your academic career in details.

The processing time they need for the security check up. For some certain countries, they even may need few months. If they didn´t give you the PP with rejection seal then you´ll be given the visa. They ask for 2 options, to come and pick up in persons or you can leave a self address prepaid courier envelop.

Relax, should be OK.

The main cause for rejection of US visitor visa is:

1. Don´t have a stable job in Canada (meaning you may stay there).
2. Security Reason (India is not a listed country).
3. If previously over stayed in the USA.

Always if denied, the you are done at the interview day. Why would they spend their time/resources after rejection? So, have a nice trip!
