Subject: spousal sponsorship?
Hi all, here is my situation. I became friends with someone last year through the internet and after a few months we started making plans for him to visit me (I am Canadian, he is Finnish). He came here in March for about 5 weeks, and in July I went over there for 3 months. I plan to go back there for another 3 months early next year...the problem is we are considering going further with our relationship but I think it would be better to live together longer than a couple months at a time before taking that step.

So I have been trying to figure out a way that we could live together for maybe a year and if it goes well, then get married. He doesn´t qualify yet for a work permit (not enough experience or post secondary schooling), and I doubt we can afford the high international student tuition fees if he were to study here so I was thinking spousal sponsorship. Since we are unable to live together for 1yr, common-law isn´t possible but what about conjugal partner? What would our chances be getting such an application accepted? What things should we do to better our chances? At the moment I´m living with my mother to save on rent to afford these trips, does it matter where I live when I sponsor him? (or that she is on disability?...she isn´t supporting me, I work full-time) Can he work/study here if he gets PR this way?
Thanks...any other info and suggestions appreciated!

Sponsorship (in reply to: spousal sponsorship?)
Here are some facts that may help:

1- Conjugal sponsorship is rediculously hard and I would not reccomend it.

2-You must admit that your circumstances are a bit different than others and perhaps you should reconsider living together for 1 year before committing to each other as it is sounding extrememly hard to do.

3- Your best bet would be to get married to each other and sponsoring him to come here.

4-This may prove difficult as he cannot work or study in Canada without a permit until he gets his PR status which can take many months of you having to support him and yourself.

5-Still this would be a good test for both of you.

Good luck
