You should get AOR (Acknowledgment of Receipt) within a month then IA (initial assement) within a year though these days it seems to go a lot faster then if it is OK IA comes with medical forms and request to pay RPRF (right for permanent residency fees) and at this point you will know if you need an interview if not after having done medical exams it takes about 3 months to get your PPR (passport request). Usually in the process additional documents are requested like proof of funds or maybe others.

You can go to trackitt.com to give you an idea of timings if you like to know.

after submitting application , ur application will go thru a completion check by CIC authorities, if they found your application as complete they will send you AOR( acknowledgement of recipt) which means processing has started on ur file. They will also issue a file number along with AOR ,using which you can check online(e-Cas) the status of ur application. If some requirement like IELTS is needed they will tell u to submit within sometime( 60 to 120 days etc)

IA (Initial assessment) it follows AOR and means u qualify for the 67 or more points and during this step u will be told to go thru medicals and may be asked to submit other docs like PCC or bank statement etc.The medical exam is conducted by CIC approved doctors they will send u a list or some website link for the list of doctors who are authorised to do the medical. The doctor will then send te medical result directly to Otawa and the same will be reflected in the CIC web site e-Cas

Once they are happy with ur backfround checks and Medical report they will send u a PPR (Passport request) to submit ur passport to CIC, once u submit the Passport then normally within 10 days u will get ur passport back alongwith visa stamped on it . After that u are all set to go to Canada within 1 year starting from the date your medical was done. If u don´t go within that time ur visa expires and u have to start the process from step 1 again.

Nidhi all these instructions given in the EG7 and other docs from CIC ,download and read it once, that will answer ur many such queries
