Subject: How best to answer application questions
  Hi

I am from the UK, currently working in Canada under a BUNAC 1 yr working visa. My boyfriend of 4 years is also from the uk but he is now a PR here in Canada. I am applying for PR as common law spouse. My questions are:

1. I have travelled in Australia and stayed in various hostels/accommodation - I do not remember the names or addresses (never thought I would need to), how should I document this on the application?

2. As a student in Edinburgh (some time ago) I also moved around a lot and although I can remember most of the addresses, maybe not the exact door number, I can´t remember the exact timeframes - again, how best should I document this?

3. Police checks. Obviously I´m from the UK, I was told I didn´t need to request a uk police check but I´m not sure if this is correct - will CICs do it for me or should I be requesting it?

4. As I´ve now been in Canada for over 6 mths do I need to get a police check for here?

5. Can I submit my application now and say I will forward the police checks/wait until I am asked for them? I don´t want to hold up the process but want to get things in place as soon as.

Many thanks...

Hey! I was also a student in Edinburgh. I think I can help you answering most of your questions here

1. You have somehow try to find them. I had the same problem when I filed because I lived in many countries but somehow I retrieve them from old mail, my own memory, the internet ... find something!

2. I moved THREE times when I was in Edinburgh though I could remember the addresses but not the postcode. The royal mail has a good website for finding postcode. For addresses try to contact your flatmates or do as above, for timeframe do the best you can, I don´t think it matters that much.

3. For PR application you need police clearance for all countries you lived for at least 6 months since the age of 18, that includes Canada if applicable. In my case I contacted the Scottish Borders Police (from the website you can download the form) and pay the fees (it is 10 pounds). They are good and it takes about 40 days, not bad.

4. Yes

5. Well for PR application at Buffalo the instructions said that you have to include the police clearance certificate at the time of submission. However I heard people sending them later so I am not sure what is best. I would send them together.
