Subject: Bringing a spouse
  Hello All:

I am a Canadian PR holding an Indian Passport. I am going to be married soon in India and wish to bring my wife here to Canada. IS there somehting called Spouse visa or dependent visa in temporary visa catagory? Or, the only way is to sponser her PR application?

If Sponsering is the only way, how long does the process take?

I heard that applying for spouse immigration from canada will take very short time.

In short is there anyway I can bring my wife in a very short time within 2 months? Please inform and share your knowledge.

Sriv,

You have to sponsor your spouse and it should take between 6 to 9 months from the date you file your application.

I do not see no other ways that she can come, not even on a visitor´s visa.

Hi Balwant thanks for ur reply. If she apply for a visitor visa before mariage, (for the purpose of visiting a friend)can she come to Canada with the same visa...? Later we would register the marriage here and apply for her papers.will that work?

With a Visitor´s Visa she is free to visit anyone in Canada.
If she can get a visitor´s visa before marriage that will be OK.
But I will advise you to marry her in India and then sponsor her, it would take a shorter period and avoid too much of in-land sponsorship complications in Canada.

If you are sure that it is a genuine marriage, I would not advise her to apply for a visitor´s visa because Immigration Officers are very curious about a marriage immediately after the failure of a visitor´s visa.

Finally, if you are both in love, why not marry and sponsor her?

That is a good answer. I can actually submit the sponsering papers after our marriage as it is going to be a perfectly genuine and legal marriage. But the wait-time for the processing is what really bouther us. It is 6-9 months. I would love to have it somewhere atleast between 3-4 months. Is it possible...?

4 months maybe possible. But I do not like to make people have great expectations on their timeline, so to be on the safe side, I normally tell my clients 6 to 9 months for marriage cases.
I have many cases where it was done between 4 to 6 months.

Just make sure all documentation are correct and none are missing so as to avoid any delays.

I am a similar case. My wife is Canadian and she is sponsoring me from India. We have a genuine relationship of 5 years.

We met in Canada 5 years ago and have been dating since then. I was visiting her in Canada in 2006 and proposed and a week later we got married in Ottawa City Hall in front of 2 of our friends.

We applied for my immigration from India, got my file number, got my medical and submitted my passport in India... now just waiting for the next move.

Timeline:
Married: Nov 2006
Application: April 2007
File Numbers (India & Canada): May 2007
Passport submitted: June 2007

I am here in Canada on a tourist visa and have already extended my Canadian tourist visa from within Canada. It is very simple. The only trouble is dealing with CIC-India they are not friendly at all and do not assist over the phone. Everything with them has to be over written mail and they will reply if required only.

Good Luck
Sid

Hello Sid:

Thanks for your questions. I have few questions to you. I would be happy if you can clarify.

1. U said u married in Canada; then why dint you apply for ur immmigration from Canada and why you applied from India.

2. You said you are in Canada now; since how long and thru´ which Visa you came in to Canada..?

3. If you are here in a visitor visa, when did you apply for this, before marriage or after marriage..?

4. You said you applied for immigration in April 2007 and are you waiting for 8 months with no answer...?

Please clarify!

Sriv

it´s very possible that it would be less than 6-9 months. i sponsored my husband and it took just over three. Less than a year before we got married his visitors visa was rejected to come to canada but we just explained in our application that we had hoped he could visit and meet my parents before marrying and it was no big deal.

Sposual Visa (in reply to: Bringing a spouse)
I am an Indian origin Canadian Citizen working in Canadian Corporation. I have come across a girl from India through matrimonial website. We had video chats, telephonic talks and and feel that we are perfect match (we have not met in person though. Our parents approve the relationship. As I have a vacation problem this year, I plan to go to India for two weeks only and after meeting the girl, if I really like her, then marry her in a civil ceremony in the company of my dad and her parents without having any big ceremony. Upon return I want to sponsor her. Will there be any problem due to small ceremony or a short contact between myself and her?
Thanks
Prasana
