TRV 'good from' date

Subject: TRV 'good from' date

If an application for a visitor´s TRV requests a visiting date from Jan 15 - Feb 15, 2008 is sent in November 4, 2007 and processed November 14, 2007 and is approved, what will the ´good from´ date usually be?

Six months from the approval date or six months from Dec 2007, or from Jan 2008, or ???

Just looking for a rule-of-thumb here.
