I couldn´t reply your post last night as internet was down on my side.

AP, DC, Richard, Sharon, Raj

Thanks for your email and support. It is like having some friends around now. As Richard said correctly, we do have our own motivation to move to Canada and we do have good reasons to be optimistic. Every family has its own particular situation that makes it good or less good to move to Canada.

Being optimistic is in my nature and having gone to Canada many times and having done a careful research on every aspect, we cannot be negative about it. Of course I don´t have a job so what ? I´ll find one. We will be going there with an open mind and all our thought and decision to move were based on "what can we bring to Canada? and what Canada can bring us?" ... as opposed to our "slavery" life in US, it was easy to find good starting answers.

Anyway there is no doubt that I will keep you informed and hopefully will bring good success stories in this forum if success comes of course.

Yes waiting is hard, I am mad about this because I made a mistake in one of the forms that is the reason why we are worried. But having calmed down overnight, it is true we are still on time ... it is only 9 weeks since they got medicals, I am sure many people wait longer than that.

CBV,

If you can wait for many years then what´s wrong with few months? So, realx and use the time for preparation.

I don´t have any problem with guys like you or Richard. Who carefully do the research and know both pros/cons. Liek Richard, he also agrees with us about the job situation, but he has other points that he considers to be more important. So, I salute him, specially when he agrees with my major point. I agree with him on his points. As simple as that.

Problem happens when I see great effort to intentionally conceal the nagative sides and get frustrated when advise to not to listen the negatives, as if those are false. Same thing I would do if someone just pictures the bad side alone. This is my whole point. People who are trying to decide should be given a fair chance, source to study & decide, it´ll protect everybody from future dispute.

Anyway, good luck & keep us informed. Did you decide where to decide? How about your London job that you were to be interviewd?

CVB, 9 weeks is no problem, we had to wait 5 months before they moved ahead, my other friend had to wait 3 months, so it varies.... but you are almost there, good luck !!

DC,

Agree with your post. Both negative and positive sides should be balanced. As too much negativity or too much positivity is not good, I think I know what you mean. For me job situation is not the most important.

To answer your questions, my problem with waiting is doubled because #1 our lease finishes in January and we don´t want to renew it so we thought we would be out of here before having to tell whether we want to renew it (=Nov. 30), for us this is a big issue, #2 we are supposed to attend a family wedding in India in January and being from South Asia I am sure you can understand what it means and what we have to go through if we don´t go ....... no way we would live the US before our PR case is finalised ... and who can understand that ?

Basically timing is an issue now but what to do ? Sharon is right, waiting is harder than getting PR.

DC you remember my London job ? well I´ll find out soon. Or else we will be moving to Toronto as we have family there, we are not alone!! :)

Raj

Thanks for your comment: 5 months, 3 months ... that is what I thought, we are still on time.

Perhaps it is time now to focus on others who need help more than us! :)

CB,

I understand your situation.

If it is not finalize by Nov, then you can at least go by month-month, you have to pay little more, but at least can avoid signing for another 7/12 months.

In my case, after medical, it took almost 5 months if I can remember correctly. Medical was done in Denver, CO. Though you can´t compare with that time frame, it was many years ago, I think at that time medical report used to go to the embassy where you applied, in my case that was Singapore with heavy backlog.

Good Luck.

I see. Thanks for your info.

5 months would be to bad for us. You see when Praveen told he got his PPR, even though I am happy for him, I thought ours would come soon and that triggered our concerns, we were ok before. Of course each case is different and we cannot compare. I guess it is human nature.

Thanks for suggesting month-to-month, I will try that, we thought about it but the people at our leasing office are so hard to deal with that we are not sure if we will be able to do that. All they want is money ... I guess everywhere is like that and since we are on the border-line with the minimum required to show as funds when we land, this lease-renewal issue is a big deal for us.

Anyway we´ll see, it is funny sometimes things happen at the right time, sometimes at the wrong times and as human beings we have no control of this.

Your last statement is very true; that´s why unpredicted things happen and we all have to calculate it as a part of life.

It should be clearly written in your Apt. lease about the options of renewal or month-to-month, with the extend rate you have to pay. Some states make it mandatory I guess, in some states it is upto the Apt. management. Read the lease carefully, if it is written there then it doesn´t matter how easy/tough they are.

CBV, I second DC on that.... month to month should be your first option.
Another alternative is to try some message boards like sulekha.com etc, sometimes you can find people who are ready to sublet or sublease if the lease duration is less, so if you cannot go month to month then lease it for a minimum, say 6-7 months and then sublet when you have to move.
If nothing is working out, maybe you can decrease the asking rent by say 50-100 per month and see if there are any takers, I think that will not set you back by a lot of $$$.

The last option I would think of is to rent a private home etc, where you can give a months notice before vacating, but moving is hell !!!! don´t do it.

The last option will be when there is no other option, moving with family is always tough, when have to move again within short period it is just a punishment.

Better option definitely to look for somone willing to rent. Read the lease carefully, mostly dependent on that.

or, ask for a month to month and offer 60 days notice as a trade off. tell them why. Most landlords are rational people and with the consideration of a longer notice period, they should not be caught with an empty property.

...at least if I was the landlord I would consider that a fair agreement. In the end you vacate either way so the bottom line is to find a way to mitigate the landlords risk.
