000's of Auto workers to be laid off

Subject: 000's of Auto workers to be laid off
Read todays´s Toronto Star and you will see thousands of auto workers are to be laid off soon and this will have a multiplier effect on the economy in Ontario.

If Vancouver or Brtitish Columbia is that good, why over 560,000 of its residents are working overseas.

I do not care what anyone says here, jobs are not easy to get, especially if you are a professional.

Those who are lucky have the luxury to shoot nonsense here, but get on the road and do your own research or read the very serious newpapers and see the results on their polls about new immigrants.

About Raj enquiring about deleting threads, one person on this forum along with her crony have an influence on the webmaster to order a thread to be deleted or block anyone from making a posting, this privilege is not allowed to anyone. A few Sundays ago when this woman slandered me together with her sidekick, they blocked me immediately, so that I could not defend myself. Of course, a few misguided contributors here were led like sheep to a slaughter house and believe this woman. I had to explain to the webmaster what was going on and he was very understanding.
They have threatened to report me again about me being sexist, and I am playing with trouble. Read a few days ago posting about the so-called " expert on immigration". I do not know who they will report me to. But this is the Canadian culture these two people are promoting, reporting people who disagrees with them.
There are a lot of double standards in the Canadian society and when you point it out, they say you are anti-Canadian.
No one is asking to put a platter in our hands when we arrive here, but we expected to be treated equally just like anyone else.

To get good jobs it is who know you, not what you have. Many of the jobs are filled and people promoted at the golf clubs, the Rotary club and other social venues. I know what I am talking about because I am a Rotarian and offers have been made to me but I am a self employed person since age 22 years.
I see many jobs offered to friends and family members and even promotions over dinners or a game of golf.

So, no matter who you are and what Phds. you have, prepare to start from the bottom.

I know I will make enemies here, but I am a practical man not out of a textbook.

GO ON THE ROAD AND TALK TO PEOPLE. LEAVE YOUR COMPUTERS AND HIT THE ROADS.

yes, there are layoffs in the auto and manufacturing sector.

out of the 12,000 announced by Chrysler, 1,100 will be in Ontario, the rest will be in the US.

Well, if those figures are correct as you mentioned, we will soon see Departed Canadian back in Canada.

Already the US currency is dropping in value and Bush is wasting billions on two wars that the average American is not interested in.

When the auto industry sneeze, all other industries gets the flu and these layoffs are just the beginning.

We might see more Americans migrating to Canada soon.

there is no doubt that a US slow down will impact the Canadian economy to some degree. But as the newswires are saying - Canada is doing very well at the moment.

I would hope Departed Canada is settled and happy in his new life. Chasing economies is no way to live your life. By the time you get there it is gone.

Success stories as portrayed are fairy tales... one man´s success being read by one million commoners. It will be worth pride if the success stories become common.

Everyday I meet tens of disgruntled immigrants and I fear that this will be bad for tomorrow´s Canada!

The main reason the former BIG three auto giants got hit with job cuts is supply and demand.

There is little demand for their cars because, reason, 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.

I feel sorry for the guys in the GM plant in Oshawa which is close to my home but..... Maybe they should of told the big Oil companies to shove their attitude about their electric car more then a decade ago.

I have not heard of any layoffs at Honda in Barrie or others so called import factories in Canada in fact they are highering.

When your negative you attract negative things to you. When one learns to walk they fall down time and again but the babies keep trying something a little different until they get it.

Things are good in Canada compared to the other G* countries come on face the facts. On the road to success there has to be some potholes.

A friendly reminder.

US economy doesn´t show over exitement when their economy booms, dollar value reaches pick...they take that normally. Average Americans don´t start giving stat and taking account of unemployment..dollar value 3 times a day. Their business channels may show that as part of their job, but general people don´t have the self esteeming attitude. I never see any Americnas self bragging about how good their country is, how llow their unemployment this..specially comparing to others.

Opposite is also true, 12,000 lay of is not a big deal in US economy. US auto industry is not good shape for the past many years. I would say Iraq war deficit is much more sinister, with a daily expenditure of 2 billion. However, for the past few years despite of that I don´t see any decline in the US job market. Dollar value didn´t fall all of a sudden, it was declining since the last few years. How much effect did it create in the job market?

ON economy is largely dependent on the auto industries, in Canada ON is still the mosy attractive area, so that impact is more severe to ON even with lower cut of.

I was very busy for the past many weeks, had to work both last 2 weekends, first time since I joined here. We are also very busy with some huge projects from Canada. I don´t see myself laid of unless the economy turns into 1930s.

Anyway, thanks for concern for me. Yes, if I become jobless becasue of immigration law I´ll have no other way than to leave the country. In that case my back up plan is not with Canada, Australia.

if you would not be endlessly Canada bashing with every post there would be no need to defend Canada or present the balancing perspective.

If you don´t want to see Canada being defended, stop attacking it.

Roy and I are the only birth Canadians on this forum that I know of. You bet we will defend our home.

Have you ever been around here when someone takes a light jab at India or Pakistan? Everyone goes apeshi%. Well, we are proud of our country and will defend it - without apology.

But really, a forum designed for immigrants to share their thoughts and experiences isn´t intended for the local patriots to hoover over, correct, and direct the discussions. They tend to reactive defensively to any critical observation from us outsiders, however slight. It´s objective views that are sought, both good and bad, rather than flag waving.

historically, this forum has been dominated by pre-landed applicants looking for answers to CIC questions and settlement questions.

If it wants to become a post-landing chat room - fine.
