Subject: AMERICAN MARRYING A CANADIAN IN CANADA
AS PER ALL OTHERS WE ARE VERY CONFUSED !!!

MY FIANCE CAME TO CANADA TO HELP TAKE CARE OF ME WHILE I WAS SICK, AND HAS STAYED. WE ARE WANTING TO GET MARRIED.
HE HAS BEEN WORKING AS A PRIVATE CONTRACTOR SINCE ALL WORK PERMITS HAVE BEEN DECLINED STATING THERE ARE PLENTY OF QUALIFIED CANADIANS TO DO THE JOBS HE HAS BEEN OFFERED.

WE KNOW IN USA THERE ARE TONNES OF FORMS TO FILL OUT, WHAT HAS TO BE FILLED OUT TO GET MARRIED IN CANADA?
WILL THIS MEAN AFTER WE GET MARRIED HE CAN LEGALLY GET A JOB HERE IN CANADA?

THANK YOU

How long has he stayed??

What does this private contractor do?

Where is he from?

Most Visa Posts are far faster to process a spousal type application then submitting same in Canada. Go to www.cic.gc.ca scroll down on the right side and check processing times for applications In Canada. Then go back and check outside of Canada with his Visa Post.

It will take probably eight months to be approved stage one before he can apply for a work permit.

ANSWERS AND MORE QUESTIONS (in reply to: AMERICAN MARRYING A CANADIAN IN CANADA)
HE HAS BEEN HERE FOR 11 MONTHS. HAS NEVER APPLIED FOR A VISA JUST WORK PERMITS.
HE WORKS DOING DELIVERIS FOR A DISTRIBUTION COMPANY, ALL DELIVERY STAFF THEY USE ARE PRIVATE CONTRACTORS.

BUT WHAT FORMS DO WE NEED TO GET MARRIED, OR CAN WE JUST SHOW UP WITH MARRIAGE LICENSE APPLICATION AND ID?
DOES HE HAVE TO HAVE A VISA BEFORE WE CAN GET MARRIED?

THANK YOU

HELP! (in reply to: AMERICAN MARRYING A CANADIAN IN CANADA)
Hello:

I just wanted to know if me and my fiance decide to marry here in Canada, does he have to stay here until papers come through? OR If he goes back and forth from the States is that allowed?? Or does he have stay in one place while papers are being processed???

Thank you!

Marrying a Cdn (in reply to: AMERICAN MARRYING A CANADIAN IN CANADA)
My husband is an American and I´m a Canadian. We got married at the beginning of September. All you need is valid picture ID (we used our passports) to obtain a marriage licence (if neither of you have been married before). You can find out where to get a marriage licence from the Vital statistics website.
I´m not much help as far as him living/working here after that. My husband is currently still living in the States while we apply for his permanent residency status. The wait time is a lot less when applying from outside of Canada plus he can still work. If he moved up here to be with me and then we applied, he wouldn´t have been able to work while the application was being processed which can take about a year.
