| Subject: Questions about Temporary Resident Visa |

I am a US Citizen, planning on going to Canada and visiting my boyfriend ( of over a year who is a Canadian citizen). The questions I have are..
1- If I go there on a TRV are we able to get married?
2- After getting married how do we go about me staying there and not having to come back to the states while the process is undergoing.
We have both read up on this, and can not get any kind of a straight answer on these two questions.

Your options are many but you appear to be going about it the wrong way. First anyone will tell you that submitting a spousal sponsorship outside of Canada compared to inside Canada is much faster. Go to www.cic.gc.ca and scroll down on the right and check the processing times or how long will my application take.
In Land is great because you get to play house while the process is going through and who would not want to wake up nice and warm next to their partner evey morning after just getting married? BUT......The process is in two stages Stage one approval in about eight months if you make no mistakes will get you authorization to work only and another year to obtain PR status and you can´t leave in the mean time.

If you get married today and get your police clearances and medical done and if you submitted your application December 1st it will take about 30 days to approve your partner as a sponsor. Lets say you start visiting your partner December 24th and are admitted as a visitor by the time your status is close to expiring you will be a PR.
JUST DON´T ARRIVE WITH ALL THE PETS AND POTS AND PANS.
