Glad to hear you are considering Ottawa. It is about a 5 hour drive to Toronto, and 2 to Montreal. It´s just a couple hours (or less, I think we took the "scenic" route) to Kingston, a vibrant university community on the Lake. It´s definitely got an urban, gritty vibe, but it´s very outdoorsy at the same time.

IT is huge there, although I´m not familiar with the various types. Ottawa, along with Kitchener/Waterloo, are well known for their abundance of IT companies.

I´m not sure about Polish communities, but I´ll look into it. It is quite diverse (granted, it´s no Toronto, but then Chicago isn´t New York either, after all) and has a number of ethnic neighborhoods.

OK: there seems to be an Association of Polish Engineers as well as a Canadian Polish Congress located in Ottawa. Not sure what those are, but maybe they can give you some further information. If your wife can read Polish, she can go to www.kpk.org. Also check out www.kpk-ottawa.org. There seems to be quite a bit there (in English or Polish!)
