| Subject: How to get PR status without re-entering Canada? |

My wife has just received her Immigrant visa. She applied overseas, but is currently in Canada as a visitor. To obtain her status, she has to leave and re-enter Canada. Going to the States is difficult, as they don´t grant visitor visas easily. Flying to any other country is costly. Does anyone know any way to do it without flying anywhere? Maybe just walk accross the "border" at the airport and then walk back? Would they allow it? Any other options?

Go to the border try entering US, get the denial letter, and land. wait for other people´s answers too.

I think what Samm suggests was earlier mentioned by Roy.
As far as I remember since you cannot enter US without a visa they have to send you back to Canada, they won´t have choice therefore you would be able to re-enter as Samm suggested.
I have a feeling that a lot of people are in fact doing that. Don´t know if it is the best way but it is surely some way ..

There is a very easy way to do that as Sam suggested.
In the US border (by road for this method), just tell them that you need to re-ented Canada for immigration purpose. They´ll re-direct you towards Canada, without probabiliy of any haasle or rejection seal in your passport.

Thanks everyone. However, wouldn´t that create a potential problem in the future, when she really needs to go to the States and applies for a US visa?

should not.
as you aren´t trying to enter usa illegally.
Sometimes in border you may mistakenly go to the us border post and same thing happens.

What you need to get is a direct back or a Buffalo Shuffle is what it used to be called years ago.
Best place in Ontario is the railway bridge just down river from the Faqlls. It just spans the george at the rapids. Not even a far walk from the Casinop.
Go across and explain it to the Yanks and they will send you back or DIRECT you back.
