The questions were flying the day it happened. Now there are even more questions.

Roy, that area of YVR is huge and scary. He was 250 feet from his mother behind obscure glass - where was airport staff? Why would they let someone sit there for 6 hours for no apparent reason beside his suitcase. The poor man was doing as he was instructed by his Mom - ´wait right there and I will find you.´ There are a lot of people who have some serious explaining to do. Oddly he made it through customs and he landed without problem. How did he do that with no english - that tells me there was someone there that spoke Polish - SOMEWHERE. Why didn´t they help him? It is shameful.

13 hour flight, never been on a plane before, tired, could not communicate, nevous about ´landing´, nervous about his luggage, strange place strange country, anxious to see his Mom, worried that he would find her... Oh my God... that poor man.

It is hard to believe that law enforcement still do not consider Taser´s potentially lethal.

The only thing that helps me in all this is to realize in many countries around the world, this conversation would not even be happening. I guess that is the only comfort we have at the moment.

I have thought about this for several days and I still think it´s a matter of bad luck. Open your minds for a second and think.
Everyone is quick to point the finger at the RCMP but tell me what would you have said if this man had taken a chair and killed the woman that held her hand out to him? Why didn´t the security people do something? Is that thier job to walk around looking tough and if something happens call the police? Is it up to the airport now to make sure they have people that can speak every language in the world on hand 24/7? How many times have you seen people on TV get tazered just so that they can tell you what it´s like? I have seen several. There is no doubt it´s a tool for saving life not taking it. Both the suspect and the officer are safer with them. Now maybe this guy had a bad heart or something, we will never know, but it will be a cold day in hell before I take sides against officers that put their life on the line to protect me everyday over the accidental death of someone that shouldn´t have been allowed to travel.
In short he was not Canadian, he could not speak either of the official languages of our country well enough to even communicate his problem and he was a danger to himself and to others...text book tazer situation. We have no way of knowing that any other action would have produced any other outcome so I say we stand with our officers against all the noisey voices we might hear on TV or anywhere else. This was an accident and I truely believe we all know that. Of coarse we feel for the man and his family we are Canadians and it´s in our nature. I have friends from Poland, btw they blame the mans family for not being at the airport if they knew he could not speak French or English. My heart goes to that poor officer who only meant to keep the peace and instead has to live with what happened.

I think the blame is all around. I deal with private security alot and people would be shocked at their limited powers. But as you say PC, where was security, why was there a huge amount of time where this poor man was wandering in the baggage area. These were the bigger questions last night on the news rather than the lethal use of the taser. The Airport and Border Services are saying very little.

We know the suspect was in distress - perhaps the combination of constraints and the taser prevented him from breathing properly - that is one theory.

The man´s family WAS at the airport but were told Mr. D was not there - then told them to go home.

Regardless... questions need to be answered and processes need to change. It should not have happened. Exclusive finger pointing is premature. All I know is something went very wrong and we need to make sure it never happens again.
