hey all,
i´m from the US. i want to visit my husband and inlaws for the holidays, but my PR application will still be pending. i know that CIC gives people a hard time about it because they end up staying a long time, but i only have a week and a half to stay before school starts up again.
should i bring proof of registration for my spring classes etc and be ready to convince them, or can i just say i´m visiting for the hoidays and leave it at that? meaning, when they scan my passport at the airport, will it show up that i have an application pending?

(in reply to: US citizen entering Canada) If you are not particularly asked about the PR application (which I see a extremely rare possibility) then don´t worry about it. Just enter as a regular tourist and be on your way, then return.
Some US GC holders/Citizens having Canadian PR always just enter as tourist from the USA and return. Canadian Immigration don´t scan them unless any particular issue comes.
If they ask, then you definitely have to tell the truth. Show your scholl reg. etc. I don´t think they´ll give you hard time.
Good Luck.

(in reply to: US citizen entering Canada) I entered Canada just before getting IA, at the airport I did not mention anything about my PR application.
As DC said, I believe it is unlikely they would ask. Even though they ask me a hell of question and search all my bags (never happened to me before) and even though I was going to stay only 2 days and coming from USA, still never mentioned about my PR application.
I don´t think it appears on their computer so they have no way to find out.

(in reply to: US citizen entering Canada) You should be fine, but if yours is a spousal application, you might encounter more questions. They do, after all, need to make sure you´ll return to the US during processing. I would take along your school papers, current lease or mortgage, etc., just a few items for proof that you still have ties to the US and will absolutely be returning. From what I´ve read, spousal cases are handled a little differently than, say, a FSW application. I traveled many times before my FSW application was complete and never encountered any problems, but we didn´t as of yet have any real ties to Canada (ie: a spouse!).
Whatever you decide, do be honest with border control. Don´t give false information, or it could jeopardize your application.
Good luck!
