In Canada dental care is not free either.

Your relative can´t hep you in reducing cost by anyway.

You can purchase healthcare/dental care insurance in Canada as a visitor.

OR, if one time, then compare the regular cost between USA/Canada and if find a better deal in Canada then come and get the treatment.

Interesting.
We had similar issue ... guess what ? we found out it was cheaper overall to get treated in INDIA !!! Believe it or not, we did that, we saved money! (means ticket to India + treatment in India was MUCH CHEAPER than treatement in USA)

I guess it depends on the issue.

Yes CBV, I also read many Canadians prefer to treat outside rather than languishing pain in the long queue. India is a good choice, whoever can afford, USA is the easiest option.

Indian quality of treatment is not inferior (not generalizing).

any time the annual salary of a worker is 1/10th of Canada or US - it is cheaper. Keep in mind, medicines are often more expensive (at least that is what we have found) and it is tough to go back for any follow up problems when the practicioner is half way around the world.

In our case we discovered what we thought should be about 1/10th the cost worked out to be about 40%. (dental crowns).

Rules about Canada are correct.

True Sharon, India can´t be expensive with 1/10th avg. salary. Though they must deserve credit for having very high quality treatments at cheaper price. Some countries with higher income levels may not provide such quality.

Sharon is right

We do have a follow-up visit to do half-way around the world. It is not easy but doable. Sometimes in some "serious" case, it remains cheaper to go to India. Depends what is your teeth problem.

For us it was implants. Our US dentist told us it would cost about $15,000 for the whole treatement. Well in India is about $2,000 + the tickets to go there. Do the math it is cheaper!

Once again it depends what is your teeth problem.

in our case, a lot of the medical community has trained in Europe. while hospital conditions are sometimes questionable compaired to Canadian standards (unless you are prepared to pay for private facilities) the training is generally equal. I have noticed routine surgery often require longer stays and are considered more ´dramatic´... but that is easily overcome. Hysterectomy in Canada is a 3-4 day hospital stay. Overseas it is 2-3 weeks.

If it is not an emergency, you can always combine your treatment with a holiday!

another thing we discovered, buy your flights in your home country. Sometimes the exact same flight is 30-40% cheaper. Travel agent friend told me that prices are often dictated by the ability of the market to pay.

In recent years more and more patients from North America have made the trip overseas to get their job done. There are a few reasons for that... long waits and expensive affair are pretty much on top of the list. I think if they are not satisfied with the service that figure should start to dwindle down in the next few years.
