Lucky you! (in reply to: Whats next????)
To my knowledge, next thing will be request for your passport. It my take up to 8 weeks to them to send you a letter (by the time then receive fees, send you a notice ect), so start packing. If you have an opportunity, go directly to Buffalo to get your visa, instead of mailing it. It does take up to 4 weeks to get your passport back, so might as well just go their and get your visa stamped in your passport the same day. Unless you are not in rush. All the best!

1-year deadline on completing application for permanent residency (in reply to: Whats next????)
My son (a Canadian citizen) is sponsoring me for permanent residency. I received the package of materials last year but didn´t start completing it until a few weeks ago (for reasons I won´t go into). Now I discover that it takes 4 to 5 months to get a police certificate from the FBI abd the application package is due next month.

It appears that I will also need police certificates from England and New Zealand, where I lived temporarily while on work assignments. Lord knows how long it will take to get clearances from those countries.

Should I send in the application without the police certificates and state that I will send them as soon as they arrive?

The instructions state that my case will be closed if the application and all required documentation is not received within one year after the date on the letter sent to my Son (which I just received and find that it is dated May 7, 2007).

I know, I shouldn´t have waited so long - but I did. Am I screwed? How strict is the Visa Office regarding the one-year deadline?

You can get the FBI results in a week or so if you state that you need it urgently.
